No Longer a Dragstrip Virgin
Went to Bandimere's inaugural 2008 "Take it to the Track" test and tune session this afternoon. Made four passes; got from 15.8 (with lots of wheelspin) down to 15.472@91.63 with some clutch slipping. Wasn't too pleased with that, although I did see another bone-stock '07 GT make a mid-15 second run before I headed home. (I was amazed and entertained by the variety of vehicles and drivers making their way down the strip -- or not, in some cases!)
I guess I've got a lot of practicing to do. But I'd be interested to know what my 15.472 at 5,860 feet of elevation might translate to at sea level. I'm sure someone here knows... Guess I'll go back next week with the new C&L CAI and Bamatunes that I'll install on Friday, and see if I can do any better. |

Oh, yeah
It was a lot of fun. I don't think I'll want to go every week -- I don't want to tear my car up that quickly, and it is $30 a pop -- but it was fun. I'll definitely be back next week, and probably again after I swap my too-tall 3.31 gears for something more reasonable.

fun aint it?!?!? you will get faster.......i know i am near sea level and a stock mustang around here will run low 14s, and with a good driver, high 13s. Cold air and a good tune will put you mid 13s if you can drive, and not TOO much more gets you in the 12s.

Man, that elevation works pretty hard against you. Be fun to see what a 1/4 mile time'd be in Leadville. Prolly not a 1/4 mile stretch flat enough though.

Beaters? Uh-huh
There were a couple that didn't make it to the 1/4 mile point and needed help getting off the track. One looked to be a lime green late-60s VW bug. There was one more that I was aware of, but couldn't really see from the pit area.
Man, there was everything there. Grandmas in Corvettes. Kids in Lancers, WRXs and the like. A young lady in an Outback, fer God's sake. Full-on purpose-built cars with parachutes. Stock bikes. Drag bikes. Lots of Stangs, Camaros and Vettes. Quite a show. |

Fun stuff at Bandi
MRV...I was there yesterday as well, was fun wasn't it??? That was my first time at the track as well, I'm no longer a 1/8 mile virgin either. That green bug was funny as well as the guy that had his Subaru Outback that ran 19's in the quarter. Funny shit, its like hey mom can I borrow your car for a couple hours. I have to say that white evo was crazy sick!!!! I was driving the 05' mineral grey mustang best run of the night was 13.94, but I need some slicks or something I roast through first and second before the tires grab. I plan on going back very soon with those slicks and blasting some vetts and others, its time for my eleanor to eat!!!! Hope to see you out there...

Yeah I hear you on that. It takes a long time to clean up the mess. Some guy blew his engine and dragged oil down the entire track, it was his first run to. Took like 45 minutes to clean it up, I felt sorry for the guy but pissed at the same time for creating a delay in my fun. haha I only ran 3 times then went home to return another day. I agree with it being addictive!!! I'm sure I'll be back soon with the proper rubber and breaking into the 12's. Once that procharger kicks in, hold on baby its go time!!!

I don't know what your "proper rubber" is going to be but for drag radials the bigger the better... I am still kicking myself for getting 275s instead of 325s... got to burn these up first the I will get bigger tires...going back tonight... gonna be a long day!!!

Hey, macadooooo
Look for me at Bandimere next Wednesday night. Redfire '07, silver "fader" rocker panel graphics, hood pins (OK, they're non-functional) and a honeycomb-pattern rear blackout panel.
Just put my new C&L intake on this morning, and I'm about to go try the race and performance tunes from Bama. Not completely thrilled with the torque tune... if there are gains, they feel to be between 3000 and 4500 or so, and they come at the expense of some "flatness" below 3000. My standard, "quick street" launch isn't working with this tune... it bogs now... Later... |

Yeah drag radials will help a ton!!! I think that 12s will be no problem since I'm spinning through 1st - 2nd with my low profile 20's (8.5 x 20 in the front & 10 x 20 in the back). They are meats but only intended for the street. I do agree elevation puts a damper on the situation. But I love seeing what that Procharger can do plus I'm sure the car looks pretty good going down the track as well!!!!

Drag Racing Correction Formulas
There is a link to convert your time to sea level. I hate living at a mile high DA....It sucks. my best times were 14.6

I feel better now...
So my 15.472@91.63 becomes 14.34@98.79 when adjusted for Bandimere's 5,860-foot elevation. That makes me feel a little bit better!
Do I get to use my sea-level-adjusted time as my "best time" for MM purposes?
