1st to 2nd Shift???


Does anyone have problems with the 1st to 2nd shift when racing. My car did it with the stock shifter, so I threw in a hurst. and it's not as bad, but it still catches right between the gears and doesnt allow me to get in 2nd when I get on it and shift hard. If I baby it it is fine. Any Ideas...

Worn synchros or a bent shift fork are most likely the problem

I get the same problem from time to time under hard acceleration. I have a Hurst also.

Dont you have to pull the tranny to replace syncros or a fork? Even When it does go in gear while racing, I still have to put some muscle into it.

I can hear the shift... Thats what mines does if I can even get it in to second.. Sometimes it just stops dead in between the two... and I end up in neutral...and put the clutch back in and then shift into second... Its really embarrassing...

Yea I get that shift scratch at times. Not to thread jack but I noticed a whining while accelerating in 3rd. Not hitting the throttle hard just normal acceleration. No, I don't have a s/c. Yes, I'm sure..... Has anyone else heard that

Guess Ive been lucky. No problems ever 1st to 2nd or from 3rd to 4th to 5th. Under hard acceleration 2nd to 3rd was a bitch with the stock shifter.
Have had 0 shifting issues since installing the HURST...

usafimj, i know the sound you are refering to, and all the s197s that i have drove (lots of them, i work at a dealer) make that noise. Dunno why or what it is.

yes you do. and its extremely extremely expensive. My car's in the shop right now, they're replacing my 3rd gear synchros and its $990!

I can't tell you... mind grinds and lock up when I get on it, normal cruising it works marvelously... and what I got from y dealership was "it's normal behaviour of the car"
