Full cage

Car is off to have full cage conversion from present 8 point roll bar. Car spent much of the day being prepped as bars have to go through dashboard and the plan is to run them through the outer a/c vents. Then a bar will run from left to right between the steering wheel and dash (so some instrumentation was moved). Bars along the roof and an Xbar added to rear. Car is having a lot of safety welds done at the same time. Technically we don't need this until 9.99 but we won't try the 20 lb tune without it, although we calculate car will run maybe 10.2 or 10.3 with the 20.

Safety first is a good way to go... got to get some pics up when you get it back

I am dreading the day when I get down to 11.5. I will have to have a cage and I don't know if there is a decent one that will work in a vert... thinking of a second stang... that would be my biggest mod by far...

dude check the rule book, you are supposed to have one with a vert at 13.49 or faster. Most tracks don't enforce it but some do and for 11.49 you have to have an 8 point

The 8 point was installed with the possibility of extending to full cage in mind. We're using the same installer. So building the new one "off" the old one.

How is he doing that? Roll bars need to be 1 3/4" to be IHRA/NHRA legal. Roll cages only need to be 1 5/8" to be legal. I suppose you could use 1 3/4" for a roll cage but that would be one heavy SOB. I'd definitely find out how he is doing it so you know what you are getting.

He's done this sort of thing for years and dragraces the 42 foot dragsters all over the country. Should know all the rules. I suppose he is adding the 1 5/8 tubes to the existing 1 3/4 frame. Never hurts to make sure though. Thanks. Chassis certification is not until August, so got a little time to get it right.

you should be able to dip in the 9's with the 20Lb. tune, don't you think?

We really doubt it Kenneth, with the hot, sticky evenings with such high humidity. I think we were at 11 flat on the 11 lb street tune. The 16 lb race tune got the car down 4/10 on three different runs. So we're thinking consistent 10.3...maybe 10.2 with the 20 tune. If this was October just after a cool/cold front...that would be different.

We're looking into an aluminum intake manifold and 83 lb injectors with the new hat to take three pumps. Then upping boost to 25 lbs should consistently break the barrier. But the track times have come down so much, so quickly with the new turbo setup that we need to maybe slow the progress down a tad, step back and just think about things some more.

I was showing some co-workers your videos and they can't believe how your car runs AND it's still street legal, also told them that it's limited use on the street.

Last time at the track, it was really busy. There were lots of stripped, gutted, tubbed race cars out there and very few street legals. Anyway, when bracket racing started and Lance wrote 10.68 on the glass...quite a few of the other racers just flat-out called us liars when we said the car was street-legal, with a/c, CD changer etc etc etc. We had to show them the inside for them to believe. Don't know if you noticed, the license plate is one them be friendly to the Environment ones. Little bit hypocritical on a car burning race gas and WOT. Thinking of changing it.

That is funny as hell. Its amazing how many people are stuck in the 80s when it comes to performance. With todays technology it is easier to go faster and still be streetable. The guy that won the fastest street car deal last year was in the 7s and drove his car cross country to 3 or 4 different tracks to compete. No chase vehicle, no tow vehicle and no trailer. Tell them fools that give you a hard time to STFU and mind their own business. You don't need to impress idiots anyway. Its your car and you can do what you want with it, even if others think it is not possible.

He lost in the second round. The timeslip pic of that round shows you just how 1/100ths of a second count

Lance dialed in at 10.68. He actually ran a 10.66, so he broke-out and lost. But if you look at the other guy...he dialed in at 11.54 and ran 11.544...so he would have won anyway. Lance made six passes that night and 0.098 of a second separated his slowest from fastest times. He's really consistent.
