what is carmax? dude wanted 15887 for this mustang but he said he would lower it to 13k since i had found some in cali with less miles for 10k with carfax that all checked out. so i told him if he got me approved for a loan with my cash down and the payment i wanted to be at i would fly the 5 hour drive to him and buy the car. he calls me a half hour after and just says "get on your plane your approved" and then trys to get off the phone.
me-" i asked what did i get approved for" dealer-" duh the the mustang" me-"dont play games with me" dealer "umm 13% apr at 370 a month" me-"laughs uncontrollably and said i can get a gt for that price" dealer "well thats what i can get you so you want the car or not" me "not at that price bye" he calls back no more then 15 minutes later dealer "i guess that was with the extended warranties and the GAP coverage" me- "i dont want that crap" dealer "best i can do is 300 a month" me "not the 200-250 i wanted, what was the total purchase price" dealer "13455" i told him that wasnt the 13k we talked about and he said i had to pay for the reconditioning of the vehicle. wow sorry this is so long but this is my rant i guess... hope you enjoyed |

When you say you compared that car to KBB price, is that private party or retail? You have to be looking at retail for a dealership is selling it. You have to remember, they have to make a profit as well.

There biggest profit margins are on the used cars and they're financing. If you can, try to secure outside financing first...then squeeze them hard on the asking price.

wholesale on a 05-06 mustang is right around 10-11k ive been told by many people. so for those who are selling theirs at 15-16k yea they have a great profit margin. i have outside financing but they are stupid. even though i wont have rent payment they have to put it down that i pay at least 500.

pay to have a car shipped to you at Carmax. It is still cheaper than average dealers. Dealers put their shipping cost of cars picked up at auctions into their asking price. Carmax will do a walk around and take pictures for you before shipping. I bought an 01 and 02 GT mustang through carmax with no problems. I also arranged my 03 Cobra to be sold in Texas to carmax and transferred to Maryland by carmax where I bought it with their extended warranty and their across country shipping. It was a smart thing to do buying blind like that. My car had only 800 miles on it when I took possesion in 2005. If the car isnt in as nice as shape as depicted in photos and description then you won't have to pay for the shipping if you turn down the ride when it arrives. And no I dont work at Carmax or have stock in the company, I simply had a great experience 3 times and think it is a safe way to buy used cars. beleive it or not, my 01 GT, 02 GT Mustang were both Mineral gray...crazy I know.
Good luck finding a car. Just remember to wait for exactly what you want and shop around. I have a friend who hates white cars but bought one because it was cheap and close to his house. Everything seems more expensive when you pay for something you dont 100% love.

What are the details on that vehicle and I'll tell you if it's a good deal. I work for a Chevy dealership, but it's a one price no haggle no hassle environment. All our prices for new cars are UNDER MSRP, and BARELY over invoice (what we payed for the car.) We generally make around $200-$500 profit on new cars which is NOTHING, and most people still expect to pay invoice for a car. They always get a great deal at my store because as I said, it's under MSRP. If you went to another dealership and haggled for six hours, the price you would get to would be the same as the price we have on our cars upfront. Why spend six hours negotiating when you can just come to us and pay what you really should pay? We also have two brand new 2008 Corvette Z06s with the 2LZ package for $68k each, and MSRP on a Z06 with the 2LZ package is $75,170 (go look at Chevrolet.com.) Where else are you gonna get such a great deal? The majority of Chevy dealerships have a dealer markup on the Z06s, on top of pricing them over MSRP.
Used cars are always under KBB Retail Value, and we only make around $500-$1,000 profit on them. Another thing, I don't get payed commission but rather I get payed a base OR commission, whichever is higher, and my commission is based off of CSI (Customer Satisfaction Index - about three weeks after a customer buys a car they receive a survey in the mail, it's either a pass or fail [extremely satisfied or bust]) and volume. So pretty much if I was to sell you a $2,000 car or a $200,000 car, I would still get payed the same. The reason I just told you the whole story is because I don't want you thinking I'm helping that dealership get a sale, I'm just letting you know the way it is. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Oh and btw, I work at Sunnyvale Chevrolet in case you were wondering.
