Shelby GT owners beware!
New to this site and what to say hello. I traded my '06 GT in for a new '07 Shelby GT. I got a great deal and really love the car. The problem is that Shelby drills holes in the hood for the hood pins. They do not paint the bare metal and install the hood pin plates with out any kind or barrier tape. My Shelby sat the on lot for months. After I got it home and noticed the bare metal from under the hood I bought touch up paint from Ford. I removed the plates only to find it was too late. The paint blistered. Ford had my car for 4 weeks. They had to repaint the entire hood and restripe it. The hood is aluminum and the hood pin kits are a chromed steal. I worked for 10 years on firetrucks and they had the same problems. The bodies were aluminum and the the company that made the truck thought using stainless hinges for the doors would work fine. If you do not put a non-metallic barrier between them you will get corrosion. This company had to repaint hundreds of firetrucks. I'm sure Ford is going to go through the same thing. I'm still waiting for Ford to get me aluminum screws. I picked up the car last Friday because it's safer in my garage then there. So Shelby GT owners BEWARE!

Sorry to hear that. This is why I specifically ordered billet hood pins.
Can I ask what made you trade your car in? Was it the looks of the Shelby GT? Because I've heard there isn't much different in suspension/performance.

Please explain the billet hood pins. Are they aluminum? I traded in my black '06 GT for two reasons. I bought the car used and the original owner ran it thru car washes. The clear coat looked bad. You could wash and wax it, pull it out in the sun and it looked terrible. The second reason was the deal I got on the new car. I paid $9500.00 less then the dealers had these cars on the lots originally. This dealer gave me $2000.00 more for the '06 trade in then kelly blue book trade in value. This put the car at less the buying a new '08 GT and adding the upgrades my self. The cold air intake and engine tune makes the car way faster and quicker. The suspension upgrades vastly improve the handling and cornering. As far as the looks I definitely think this Shelby looks tough. Since the car was at Ford so long I don't have any good pics yet. I promise some soon. Thanks.

Yep, we're all suffering for Ford not protecting the aluminium in the car ... I've got a spec under the hood that happended during production ... not covered by warranty either. Bare metal valve covers ... corrosion everywhere on them ... that's why I painted them ... TB is just as bad. I enjoy the lighter weight but it has to be protected correctly ...
I never liked the way the put the hood scoop on the Shelby GT either ... I'd be all over that area next for corrosion issues. |

Blistering has been reported by a number of Shelby owners around the hood pin plates.

When they painted the hood they found that none of the holes for the scoop had paint. I need to find out if the side scoops are drilled for mounting or installed with 3m tape. I saw Shelby side scoops for sale on ebay and the installation instructions had both options.

I believe it has fasteners and double back tape.
