Gear Re-Install

Well, I'm finally just biting the bullet and taking the car back to get the gears reinstalled. Had 4.10's put in back in January. They never really sounded or felt right. It has developed into a vibration that you can feel throughout the car as soon as you come out of the gas (pinion bearing). So, the shop that did the original install has agreed to "look at it" . . . whatever that means. Of course they are quick to remind me that performance parts don't come with a warranty. I am quick to remind them that it was never installed correctly to begin with. Besides, it's not like I had them put in a super charger and then I went out a blew my engine and expect them to pick up the bill.

If I can't get them to man-up and fix their screw up, I guess I'll be taking the car to a new reputable shop (Custom Performance) behind Lowes Motor Speedway to pay for the whole thing all over again. A few people on the forum recommended that shop to me. Either way, it's got to be fixed. So, I'll let you know how it goes . . . and possibly who to stay away from if I can't get any satisfaction from the first crew. Hopefully, it will not be a problem.

Approximately how many miles have you driven since the gears were installed? Hopefully it can be adjusted easily without changing the gears, but every time I have to do something it's never easy. Good luck. These guys should make their install right for you.

Thanks. it's been since the first week of January. Bonus money . . . you know how it goes. Anyway, I guess it's been about 5K additional miles now. I've been told that I might need to have a complete new set of gears. I'm not sure how it's going to go.

Should be interesting. I should know something tomorrow. Got me all wired . . . can't sleep.

Well, got the car back today . . . and she purrrrrrrrs again! Sweet! 4.10's sound much better than the original install . . . no gear whine . . . no vibration . . . pure harmony as it should be. Original speed shop agreed to put in brand new gears . . . so all I have to say is . . . it took about 6 months . . . but Harris Racing in NC is a stand up shop. Stood by their work and fixed the problem . . . can't ask for more than that I guess.

It's all good now.

Good to hear they stood behind their work. Nowdays that's rare. I'd love a set of gears, but i have to wait awhile.
