Hurst Comp Plus Billet shifter

Finally installed over the weekend...Instructions were pretty bad, and the pictures are not that helpful, but all in all went in and works really well..

After driving around all day, shifter is so much better than the stock shifter, it doesn't feel like a wet noodle when you go through the gears...you have to really crank down and tighten the top two bolts a couple of times with an allen wrench, because they wiggle loose after a few drives...after fixing that no problems...

by the way do that on the stop bolts too. Mine came loose after a couple days and i couldnt get it into third. had to readjust the front one and then used the lock tight and it has not come loose since.

Haven't done that yet...I will if it comes loose. But I tightened the bolts so damn hard that I haven't had a problem like the first day in a few days now...

Had the same problem with the shifter bolts but the blue lock tight along with putting some deep pressure has get the bolts from coming loose any more
I am enjoying it also Rickles
BTW, did you order the black shifter knob seperately?

When you put the hurst shifter in your cars did it make it harder to shift(like you have to push the shifter harder to get in gear). i think its just me but mine feels a little hard to shift compared to stock.

Mine felt like that also a first but after a few weeks now I am either use to it or the stiffness has gone away. Shifts like a dream now ( or just have became use to it )

I am so with you there. I truly thought the same thing about mine after the install but since it hasn't fallen off going down the road I just figured it was ok....yes things like that has happened to me before. If I could type better I would tell you guys about the time I lowered a Mazda truck and threw away the bolts in the leaf springs that kept them straight.....hehehe funny story now but not back on the night that they decided to move

it is a positive shift so yes it is stiffer to engage. This is a like a competition shifter, at the track it feels good. banging gears it is nice. Its kinda like old school shifters. You ever drive an old sports car, like a 69 vette, the only time that shifter felt good was when you were shifting hard. These things remind me of that. Around the street, well you will get use to it and it will break in little bit. But it is normal that it pops in gear stiffer then the stock shifter. Thats kinda what i like about it. You want buttery soft try to the pro 5.0. You could shift that with your pinky under full torque. thats why i ditched it. I like my shifters like a like my woman, rough.

silver no, on the original hurst those screws are nothing. there is not any adjusment on that shifter.

I dont understand how your missing 2nd gear? are you pulling it towards you? did you mount the upper stick on the left side or right side? is it really tight up against the console in first and second? if you put in on the left side you got it on the wrong side. it should not be rubbing. I know a lot of pictures show it that way but it mounts on the right side. I just cant see how that shifter is cuaseing you to miss 2nd. your foot isnt faster then your hand is it?

What dont you like about it, the missing gears? trust me, regardless of what some people say, the original hurst has no mechanism in place to help with shifts. It is simply a shorter throw. The new hurst is spring loaded and is better for the shifts. You could try a new hurst. If you want really easy and smooth shifts and to never miss 3rd gear, try a pro 5.0.. you couldnt miss third if you tried. you can push it straight forward with you finger and hit 3rd. I got my used one, after you pick these cams up from me, if you want to try the pro 5.0 ill send it to you, you just pay for shipping. if you like it keep it. I just didnt like the throw, its not that short and its to soft for me. but you can put the stick on forward or backs the stick has two heights for mounting. Its a thought for the track, you cant be missing shifts.

With the new hurst i have been to the track 4 or 5 times now, 32 runs already on my car, wow. anyway, only had one night that i was missing shifts, i think it was just me.
