When working underneath your car

are you guys putting the car up on 4 jackstands, or just raising the front or rear?

How about drive up ramps? What is the best way to get under there for work such as shifter installation or exhaust?

for shifter or exhaust...put all four corners up on stands...ALWAYS use stands...for oil changes I just go up on my ramps.

I changed my H-pipe on 2 stands. Same with my shifter. Oil changes I do on ramps. Serious work might require 4.

Better to use the stands and have the jack as a backup, rather than the other way around. I hate using jackstands, even with them under the car I get nervous. Luckily I can get to a lift if I need it, but for quick in-the-driveway stuff, jackstands are about as safe as you can get. If the car comes off the jack and the jackstands aren't seated, the car will just knock them over, and it's lights out.

I use the same rule of thumb, no matter which end and how short I feel I will be under there, the car goes on a minimum of two jackstands with my floor jack under either the K member as a back up, or the differential if I'm in the back.

to be safe you always need to use jack stands.............i on the other hand am not always safe, (sometimes i stack cinder blocks in "stairs" and drive up on them).............but its not the smartest thing to do............

Holy shit!!! No way...it's just tall enough to be extremely unstable, and they're not tied or braced together in any way...can u imagine trying to drive your baby up that thing and having it do the splits on you halfway up??? Never...that video only had...what, 2 cars in it? Probably the only 2 they got up there before something went terribly wrong...

wooden blocks work. for the front i stack two 8x6's on top of each other laying horizontally on each side of the k member and its much sturdier than jack stands. just use good judgement and don't try holding your car up with a 4x4 block standing up or a jackstand placed in a weak spot.

So where is the best part of the car to place the floor jack to lift the car up without causing damage?

Also, I just bought my stang and need to do the first oil change (358 miles new). I always do my own oil changes, anyone got any helpfull tips?
