C&L Trueflow intake system with "No-Tune" Calibration

Has anyone used this version. It is said to deliver 17-20 HP with the insert and then can be removed when ready to get a tune.

I'm thinking about this too. 6-700 dollars for a cai and tuner is a little much for me right now. There are a couple of people on this site running no tune Airraids and seem to be happy with them, but I like the way the C&L Street is built. It looks like it'll hold up a really long time and doesn't cost much more than the plastic ones.

I like the racer over the street because the intake tube is plastic and will not retain heat like the street intake, plus it's cheaper.

I've had the C&L street, and now have the Airaid. I was more impressed with the quality of the materials and the fit and finish of the Airaid. Plus, it doesn't have the C&L's metal intake tube, which will hold more heat than the Airaid's plastic tube.

But the racer doesn't offer a "no-tune" option ...no?

I agree with MRV. I too have the Airaid, and it just looks like it belongs. My dyno numbers proved that it gets results as well.

The point of an CAI is to process more air through the motor . . . no? So if the Airaid is adding more air . . . how is it that you do not have to re-tune? I have the C&L Racer. Not knocking the Airaid . . . just wondering how it works.

IMO if money is tight then just get a tuner. You can do more w/ a tuner than you can with a CAI. The power gains w/ just a tuner are impressive.

I was thinking about getting a tuner first also. From what I read, both show an approx increase of 16-17HP. I am a little leary of messing with the factory tune though, I only have 3800 miles on my car. I'll probably loosen up after I get more miles on it though I'm tempted to get more out of it after reading everyone else's results.

I'd also like to get a set of 3.73 or 4.10's. I have an automatic so if I do gears I'll probably do 3.73's.

Then you would want a tuner. If you have gear installed and don't set it to the correct gears, your speed-odometer will be off. A tuner has the option to select the gearing.

The Throttle Body is what controls the amount of air going thru the engine.
The CAI just remove some of the restriction in the inlet path.
The reason you need a tune with some brands is when you
mount the MAF in a differant diameter tube you change the
velocity of the air going past it for any given throttle position
so the PCM has to be recal'd to keep A/F ratio correct.

I'm happy with my Airaid w/no tune as yet. I can't document any power gains, but my mileage improved by about 3 mpg on the big hiway.
