I believe the kit that came with the gears was from Yukon.

Oh Hell . . . here we go . . .
Bro, go back to the shop and have them re-install them. You will NEVER be happy with them and they will get worse. I just went through this whole thing myself with 4.10's. I had mine installed in early January. They whined in 4th and 5th gears at anything over 3000 rpms from the start. I took it back to the shop and they told me that "4.10's will whine". Great . . . but the whine turned into a vibration . . . and over time the vibration will get worse. I finally got the shop to reinstall the gears. Now they are perfect. The problem was the pinion bearing. If your speed shop did not install the entire gear kit with all of the little shims and bearing etc . . . then you will may have some issues in the long run like me. Even if they didn't, it will be worth it to go back and have them put them in with the new parts. Mine is perfect now . . . but it sucked to drive for about 5-6 months because of this gear issue. Do yourself a favor and do not wait as long as I did. You will not regret it.

Gear whine wont get worse. It just meaned they weren't shimmed that well. And it has nothing to do with the company. Yukon or frpp, gears are gears guys. Even if they weren't shimmed all that great they will work 100 percent, but you will have to deal with gear whine of course.

Had FRPP 3.73's installed last Thursday in my auto GT, no gear whine whatsoever, at all at any speed, rpm.

It makes sense that gears are gears, but why do so many advise against getting the Motive brand?

because misinformed individuals will say that the Motives whine. noobs hear it and then continue to perpetuate the myth. any brand of gear will whine if installed incorrectly. i have FRPP's made by Motive and you know what? they don't whine...

Motive and yukon are the ones that everyone says to back off on, but all in all if you hear gear whine in the end, blame your mechanic/installer.

Agreed . . . it is all in the install . . . and if it is done correctly . . . it will not even be an issue. That's why I did not even think of trying to attempt that mod on my own. You need someone with some gear experience.

Hey . . . I'm not a professional mechanic . . . and I agree that it most likely had nothing in particular to do with the company or product . . . it's just not a perfect install. All I can tell you is that mine did get worse. It could have easily been a combination of the shims and carrier bearings. But what I can tell you is that what began as a little bit of high pitched whine turned into a vibrating nightmare when you would try to drive over about 60 mpg. You could feel it in the pedals and floor board mostly . . . and as soon as you would roll out of the gas a little . . . it would get worse.

Anyway, good luck eLLuSioNIST

Well I hsouldn't of l eft out... did you get a bearing rebuild kit/master rebuild kit for the rear. My dads got an 06 that chewed up the stock gears pretty well had they been in longer it would of been ugly.

He went with yukon 4:10's, with a rebuild kit. Been like 2 years? idk like 40 n/a passes and about 60 or so with a paxton on slicks. Seems like the diff is slowly wearing out. Sometimes on slicks with the line lock on it does the one wheel peel.
