Calling all Whipple Owners

Well I am sitting here waiting for the Yellow freight truck to pull in front of the house. It sure has been a long wait. It shipped from whipple June 6th and is finally coming today.Next week I am starting the install, I took off 3 days from work just so I don't have to rush it. I have all types of questions running through my mellon. I currently have a tuner with a Brenspeed tune. I will remove that tune back to stock and install the Ford tune that comes with the Kit. I will run that for a while. I have 20" wheels, will ford put that into my tune so that my speedo will be correct? How will this work? Thanks for the help.

20 inch wheels shouldn't affect the car if the overall diameter is the same or relatively close to stock. My tire size is 295/30/20 and is close enough to stock without needing to calibrate the speedo

if you are going w/ the whipple tune, they will send you a voucher w/ the SC for a ford tuner. you tell them what you got on your car and they'll send you the tune w/ the tuner.
what i did was cancel the ford tuner, they prorated me the money for that tuner, i used that money to pay for a custom tune on my livewire. but the ford tune is good and safe so i wouldnt worry about it. but you could always get a custom or dyno tune later and put it on your tuner and save the ford tune for backup.

Thanks, my plan is to run the ford tune for a little while, then take it and get it tuned on a dyno. I'm still waiting for it to arrive. This has been the longest 3 weeks of my life.

in my honest opinion, I would keep your SCT tuner, for the sheer fact that if you need to upgrade anything on your car for parts (headers, wheels, etc.) you got the tuner. and I would invest in a whipple tune from Lethal Performance / VMP Tuning. i hear nothing but good things.

ive had the whipple tune now for 2 years, i'm very pleased with it, but getting it recalibrated for all my future parts was a PITA!! and $50 each time to get it recalibrated. I wish I had not sold my SCT tuner.

Well, it finally arrived!! What a nice kit. Everything is packaged very well. I do plan on keeping the SCT tuner. I am going to run the ford tune for a while then get it tuned using the SCT tuner. I know of a shop outside of Harrisbug that has a dyno and SCT software. I have herd good things about them. I can't wait until next week, thats when I will start my first Supercharger install.

um if you told frpp what your diameter is they can put it in your tune? Does the re-cal come with it or do you get the voucher and have to go online and order the re-cal tool? Anyway I know with the power pak, i got the voucher, you go online and give the FULL number off the back of your pcm, not the sticker on top and it has a place for gear ratio, tire size and other mods.

The shop is SGS Automotive out of Dillsburg. CJ Pony Parts uses them and I have heard good things about them. I did apply for the Ford Racing tuner today. It's all handled over the internet, I just pulled the PCM and got the complete number off of it, measured the O.D. of my rear tire and the rest of the car info. (Year, Vin.# Ect.) It was real simple.

I really do like how the whipple kit goes together on the 3Vs. Before you put the kit on, you really should relocate the air temp sensor to after the intercooler, at least drill and tap 3/8" npt for a threaded lightning style sensor, and you can wire it in later when you get a custom tune. This lets the computer know the temp of the air going into the engine and adjust timing accordingly, I prefer to set up all of my whipple tunes this way.

Do you have any pictures of this? I already have the supercharger installed, I am working on the Intercooler now. I have done everything on my own except for the fitting I had welded on the fuel rail for my fuel pressure gauge. The shop that had do it TIG welded it and it looks great. Why doesn't Whipple drill and tap that hole for the temp. sensor? I must say everything so far goes together like its factory stock. Whipple makes a great kit!

I don't have any shots, but you can use one of the runners on the drivers side, but if you use the front one just watch out for the coolant hose coming from the blower/ic assembly.

FRPP does the calibration for the whipple, and they just rely on the knock sensors to take care of things if temps get too hot. I don't like that method, because every factory ford supercharged car has always had an air temp sensor after the intercooler, and IMO that is the right way to do it. If you have the sensor in the right place you can prevent knock before it ever happens, rather than relying on KS to take care of it after the fact.
