HELP! exhaust question

i posted recently that i got my new exhaust installed (lts, catted H, stingers). So today was my first experience commuting with it, and the drone is loud and annoying. it happens btw like 1400-1800 rpms and it drives me nuts. the biggest problem is i can't cruise in 5th gear on the highway unless i'm above 65mph.
will this drone decrease over time or am i stuck with it? also, is it possible the headers could be touching something under the car slightly cause it's almost like a vibration as well unless it's just in my head?

Just stay out of that rpm range. With the engine taching that low you are just wasting gas.

how is it wasting gas? i was under the impression you get better gas mileage if you keep the rpms down? normally i'll shift into 5th at ~50-55 mph (or at least i did before the exhaust).

Not true at all. if you are to low the motor bogs and uses more gas to get into the optimal range which i think is about 2500 for our cars but I am not sure.

so you're saying i shouldn't be shifting until ~3000 rpms? i've been shifting at 22-2500 thinking it was better.

im still having second thoughts on these stingers though... the sound is incredible but they are pretty loud with the longtubes, im going to give them a couple weeks but im already thinking maybe i should trade em for the frpp GTAs instead.

not always true!! I read my owners manual and it says for optimal fuel mileage that i should shift into 5th at 40 mph. check your manual, mine told me all the shift points for the best everything. thats stock of course

2200-2500 is fine. Thats when our cars start to be efficient. Do not shift under 2000 though. you will be for sure wasting your gas. The drown you are stuck with. pretty much all exhaust do it. its part of the mustang.

get 4.10s and you wont see those rpms. drone gone, faster car, everybody wins.

no the drone does not decrease, i get drone at 1900 with my setup, but i just dont drive at 1900 no 5th gear on a back roads, i keep the rpms up around 2200 to 2500. Plus mainly i keep the windows down now, always, even when its hot, i got the ac blowing and both windows down. Its much worse with the window up it just resonates in the car.

Rattling you could try to tighten everything up.

In the past everyone was raving about the stingers. But now more and more people are complaining about the drone. It seems like there is an increase of people selling the stingers on mustang forums.

You know the truth though. Poeple on forums, myself included, get bored with what we have, when always reading about something new or different. every parts dealer should be paying these forum owners tons of money. They cuase people to want to mod. And a lot of people instead of just saying, i got the bug, i want to do something to my car, come up with excuses as to why they need to change something. Stingers do not drone that much at all. And at 1400 to 1800 rpms when the engine is bogged like that and he has lts and a H pipe, what isnt going to drone at that rpm? CORSA's???? Break out that visa babe cuase your gonna pay for them. With long tubes you are going to notice the drone more, its louder.

I do see your point. I know may flowmasters would drone at 1800-2200 RPMS. Is the flowmaster drone as bad as the stinger drone? I have JBAs axlebacks on the car now. Yes, the do drone, but not nearly as load as the flows.

I don't know what all the fuss is??? Did you,or did you not want your car to sound like a Mustang? It's not a "Drone"at least not to me,it's the sound of power waiting to be unleashed!!!! I had less growl, after the L/T's where installed.I listen to my exhaust now more than the Stereo....Does anybody here remember the term "Motor Head"....No radio or Stereo ststem in the car!!!!!!

what is the effect of exhaust leaks on the drone factor? i read it can effect it, i just started my car and stuck my hand under the back and felt around the connection for the stingers and they are definitely leaking a significant amount. when i stop this leak how much will it decrease the drone?

I agree with you and i dont. in some cases its not about volume. The drone that a lot of people are talking about and the drone my car has at 1900 will litterally hurt my ears and gives me a headache, its just the tone it hits. But mine is a raspy drone at that. im not complaining, i just dont let it hit that rpm, and like i said, i always have my windows down so it doesnt resonate in the cabin.

Think about it. Gears would cost as much as a new set of axle backs. Your car gets a lot faster and you don't have to deal with the drone.
