Cutting Off Cats...

My friend says he can cut off my cats, and replace it with a bolt on straight pipe. I already have a custom exhaust. He also said he can add bolts to the existing cat to bolt it back on when necessary. Is there anything bad about taking it off. I have an 05 mustang that is rarely driven since i use my truck for everything now. Its mostly for show (i put 2000 miles on it last year). Besides the legal reasons, what else should i watch out for when taking it off. I dont know a ton about cars, but he said it could affect my o2 sensor and how it would react. It might also make my check engine light come on. Please advise me on how this will affect my car and how else i can make my car louder. Thanks

without cats you will throw the check engine light. get a handheld tuner (like SCT) and turn off the 02 sensors. You wont pass emmissions with the check engine light on.

this will def. make your car louder. then put some FRPP stinger mufflers on the back and it will be A LOT louder. and the tone of the mufflers are the best I've heard

A couple questions.

1) Does your state have emissions test and how strict are they? What is involved in the test?

2) What mufflers are on the car right now?

If your friend does great exhaust work thats cool,but i've heard that the stock mid pipe is a pricey SOB so you're better of just buying an off road pipe and have your friend switch them out when you are ready for emission testing.

. Way to much work involved for what you friend wants to do. Get a pypes h or x-pipe. They swap out in an hour and only cost $175...

how do you turn off your o2 sensors on an sct? i got mine tuned by brenspeed but dont you need them to turn them off?

Only if you have an offroad midpipe.

It also lean out your air/fuel ratio and the check light will go showing left / right bank too lean !

don't just switch off the O2...need a total re-tune of the fuel curve.

It does sound GOOD ! ...which come to my question ...who can re-tune my fuel map.
I have a Vortech cooler charged S/C but only a standard tune.
