Hurst Shifter Rattle

My Hurst shifter rattles in third gear when the rpm's are 3000 or higher. Has anybody ever heard about this happening? I'm worried that it could be in the transmission and not the shifter. I just bought the car new April 1st '08 so it will have to covered under warranty. Any info would be great!

loctite the bolts that hold the chrome arm to the shifter mechanism, they do not rattle when properly installed and this is usually the culprit..

i did this and it still rattles it sounds like it comes from were the actual shifter is actually in gear..When it starts to rattle if i hold the shifter it stops

Which hurst do you have? im guessing the old one with the sound your talking about? buy new bushings for it. its blashpemy but i might disagree with emay on this one. I have had two hurst in my stang now, the first one, the old hurst rattled bad at 3000 rpms in 2nd and 4th the worst, the more i tightened everything the worse the rattle got. its that brass coupling in the ball. My new hurst, rattles a little, once and a while, nothing that bothers me. dont try to tighten the ball to much, it makes it worse, make it tight, just dont really crank on it. just tighten the two bolts that hold the upper stick on and use locktight.

It would most likely be the bolts at the bottom of the shifter arm. It shouldnt make a difference wether its in gear or not as the shifter isnt actually inside the tranny. I agree, loctite the bolts and this will go away.

+1, I started a thread just like this a few weeks ago. Found that these bolts had become loose, used loctite and now good as new.

Thank's for all the replies on this one. I repair forklifts for a living and I use locktight on everything. So needless to say I have lots of it at my disposal.
