Clutch problem?

On Friday night I tried to launch at around 3K by slipping the clutch until it hooked up instead of launching at lower RMP's and dumping the clutch. The launch actually seemed to be quicker slipping the clutch from 3K, but I smelled a little burning clutch. Yesterday and today I noticed a "shudder" feel when taking off slowly in 1st gear. It only did it a few times today and then didn;t do it any more, but I don't know if it will happen again. Did I toast the stock clutch? It is an '08 with 7K miles on it and very few hard launches (less than 20).

shudder under take off is classic signs of being miss aligned or wore out

If it's wore out after 7K miles and maybe a dozen hard launches on pavement with stock tires then I'd say that stock clutch is a piece of shit. I'd also say it's time for the dealer to install a new piece of shit under warranty.

Just keep driving it until it craps out or quits doing it, then get a Spec 3+ and your worries will be gone. You could try the dealer, but unfortunately chances are they'll just laugh.

When I went to lunch today it didn't shudder at all, only Sunday and forst thing this morning. It shuddered about 5 or 6 times after my 3K launch and it hasn't done it since.

With 7K miles on the car they can laugh all they want, but they will be laughing while they install a new clutch (under warranty) if it dies this early.

If they refuse to repair it under warranty then I'll pay them to replace it with a credit card and dispute the charge. Works every time. Then it's up to them to eat the cost or file it as warranty with Ford.

Good luck with that. You're taking a stock clutch designed for the street to the track. You possibly fry it and now it's the dealers problem. I'm not trying to be a dick, but damn, if you're going to take your car to the track, you should know you're going to break shit. If you're not ready to pay for what you break, you probably shouldn't be going to the track.

I didn't take it to the track.

And any brand new car should be able to handle one hard launch without killing the clutch.

I'e had the car since March and put over 7K miles on it, so far no problems.

It does grind going into 3rd gear when it's really cold, but pausing just a second between 2nd and 3rd solves that until the tranny warms up. From what I've read this is a very common problem.

And I can't find a Ford dealer in the north Dallas area that will do my TSB's and recalls without reflashing the PCM so I'll hold off on them until I feel like taking off the CAI.

A good FRPP friendly dealership could make some money off of me, but I guess there aren't any dealers like that in such a small market as Dallas.

Yep, seems to have stopped the shudder so I'll ignore it unless it develops a problem. But I figured that since the car is 3 months old that if it was a bad clutch that I would take it to the dealer ASAP since they would have a hard time denying a warranty on a 3 month old clutch.

I put about 25K miles a year on my cars and keep them for 2-3 years. This one I'd like to keep so I just bought an old car to drive to take some miles off the Mustang. A month or so of work on fixing up a few things on the old car and then I'll garage the Mustang more often.

Dont even bother taking it to Ford, They wont replace a clutch under warranty as its a wearable part. For them to cover it, they would have to take it apart and find something physically wrong with the clutch ( Ie Manufacturers defect ). But if they dont, they are going to charge you all the time it took to take it apart and inspect it. Like everyone above. I put my 06 through some hell with a procharger and it never acted up once from the time I got it to the time I sold it...
