AEM BF Air Intake Install with PHOTOS!
Hey guys... I recently installed the first mod to my 2007 GT. I got an AEM BRUTE FORCE air intake. I was basically looking for a high-quality system that made power and had a dry filter. The kit I got was dyno'd for a 7hp and 7 ft/lb of torque increase and matched my needs. So far I am very happy with the kit... the car feels great, engine sounds mean, kit added power, and its puts a big 'ol smile on my face when I floor it. I would definitely recommend this kit for someone looking for a good bang for the buck upgrade.
I bought it directly from AEM's site and it arrived within a few days. LINK TO WHERE I BOUGHT THE INTAKE Onto the pics... Install went smooth and took less than 45 minutes with the help of a buddy. We both did a little wrenching and a little snapping of pics. 1- Stock engine bay... pretty bland if you ask me! ![]() 2- Start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal. Then unplug the PCV hose on the left side of the intake (directly in front of throttlebody). Unplug the throttle control plug on left side of throttlebody and the TPS sensor on the right side of the throttlebody. Unplug the MAF sensor and disconnect the intake pipe and airbox (one bolt by fender). ![]() 3- Unlock and disconnect the ABS connector. This is what it looks like for reference. Once you move that out of the way, you'll see that underneath the connector is a bolt, take that out. ![]() 4- I removed the engine cover at this point, to gain access to the throttlebody bolts. There are a couple bolts on the side to remove then slide it past the front-facing studs. ![]() 5- Unbolt the throttlebody, there are four bolts... one on each corner. ![]() 6- Put the supplied o-rings into the throttlebody spacer and sandwich the spacer between the intake manifold and throttlebody. tighten to 10 Nm and reconnect the throttle and TPS sensors. ![]() 7- Push the supplied nipple into the coupler and put onto the throttlebody, plug in the PCV hose. (I said hose and nipple in the same sentence =)) ![]() 8- Remove the MAF sensor from the stock intake and bolt onto the AEM pipe. Be careful with this sensor and make sure the flow arrow is pointing the correct way. ![]() 9- Mount the heatshield into place and install the rubber edge trim to protect the pipe. (Just work the heatshield into place around the A/C lines). Plug the ABS connector back in after you're done in this area. ![]() 10- Here's a shot of the bottom bracket that really stabilizes the entire unit. I put this on after I put the heatshield in place then tightened everything at once. ![]() 11- Install the soft mount, the intake pipe will mount to this later. ![]() 12- Slide in the upper AEM pipe and just barely tighten up the hose clamps. Leave them loose until the rest of the intake is on. ![]() 13- Slide the lower pipe in place, bolt the bracket onto the soft mount and plug in the MAF sensor. ![]() 14- Close-up shot of the softmount and how to mount the pipe. ![]() 15- Once you slide the filter on and tighten up all the hose clamps, you're all DONE! Sweet new intake under the hood. Let it warm up, check your work, half-ass put your tools away and take 'er for a spin!

yep, metal is not good. heat soak sucks arse. JLT, C&L, and steeda (maybe) are the only one's i would recommend. as long as you're happy though good for you.

Great write up. Not sure if I agree on the intake choice. Looks like a quality piece though.

Thanks all
Thanks for the constructive comments everyone. I do know that there are a number of intakes on the market and that is why I did a ton of research. And with all due respect, I am not going to believe anything that comes from anyone who isn't A) a mechanical engineer B) aerospace engineer C) or someone that is well versed in thermodynamics. In any case, I am happy with my choice.
And from what I know, heat soak is an issue if you're sitting in traffic. Then I can see the effect that heat can have on an intake tube of any material. But who needs their engine to make power in traffic? Under wide open throttle, how long do you think the air charge is in your intake tube? 1/20th or 1/10th of a second? Do you really think that a 1/10th of a second is enough time to transfer heat from the intake tubing to the airstream? I don't think so, under full throttle the air is moving so fast, it doesn't car what type of tube its in... its haulin' ass LINK TO ARTICLE EXPLAINING THIS |

Well I trust dyno numbers that prove the C&L and JLT are the best. The AEM looks like a quality piece but sure as hell doesn't make as much power as the aforementioned units.

you dont have to be an engineer to see that 7hp and 7tq aren't that great.

thats without the tune though guys. in all theory any aftermarket parts with stock tune dont add up right maybe he just needs to get the thing tuned.
AEM makes good intakes they are expensive as hell though. have the guy get his car tuned with it to see actual gains. |

Dude i had a BBK fenderwell intake on my 2000 gt, they are metal and it didn't hurt performance although i wouldn't lie it sure as shit got hot as hell on the outside. To be honest anything under the hood will get hot after a while of driving even plastic and i am sure the air is traveling fast enough that its not heated that much.Besure to get a tune for that thing just to make sure you are getting the most out of your investment.Nice looking intake.NO regrets, keep modding.Get a tune or get it checked.

as a reminder the C&L along with the BBK are also shiny metal. I used to be biased on my intakes but i learned a little on this thread, if neone has a dyno shop handy we could conduct a true dynotest on intakes.
