What Transmission to use????

I am looking at swapping in an auto by the end of the year and have found a couple choices.

I know I can get the 4R70W and 5R55S already. But I was looking at a TH 400 or a Power Glide. I know both are Chevy Trans. but they can build these things to handle more than I could ever throw at it and make them more streetable than the 4R70W. I am looking at a TH 400 with Transbrake, Lock up converter, and Overdrive.

The only questions is go with the Power Glide which is a 2 speed, Low and High gear or TH 400 with 3 forward gears and overdrive and Lock up.

I was just having a similar discussion at the drag strip last week. The discussion was about my friends S10 pickup iwth a 350 that is running 13.20's. He was talking with some veteran racers about a powerglide and they told him unless his truck weighs under 2800lbs to stay away from it. As for your other choices, they are all good I believe. I am interested in your decision and how well it works since I am considering this swap as well.

The C4 is only rated at 700 HP and that is there built up one. The TH400 is rated for 1500 HP. The PG rated for 2500 HP.

haha TH400 rated for 1500 HP with Trans Brake and everything to install except shifter for $3,074. This will be my end of the year project.

Have you ruled out FB Performance? Think mine is rate at around 1100 crank. Happy with their product, but no idea how it compares to others mentioned. Would think you would want something at least as strong as mine.

I'm curious. What else is required to install an auto into a car that started out as a stick? For example, are there any electronics required?

The C4 is not as parasitic either, and I have seen the C4 go well beyond 700HP.....

For my car's conversion was very easy

It was a 5 speed manual. The OEM electrical wires & connector were retained for electrical functions and the computer from the stick-shift transmission was used.

So, there were no harnesses to buy or anything? Pretty much just plug n play?

It coms with a solinoid driver that you connect to the trans and hook up 1 power wire to it.

I am sure they have stronger C4's but that is wht they rate theres at.

The TH400 is rated at 1500 HP but can easily be updated with a different sprag and center shaft to make it hold 2500 HP but I don't need that much.

Bet his car ends up with at least 1000 hp. The motor build alone is amazing. I want to see it reach its full potential...mid 9s maybe.

they are for limited street use...but with my car only getting 13.5 mpg on the highway and 7.8 mpg in town with the new tune I don't think it will see much street use anymore.
