Yeah, I've been hiding this summer, got a nasty scratch on my door I need to get fixed or other Mustangs will continue to shun me. At stoplights the cars actually avert their headlights in disgust and their drivers pretend not to see me.... Neons and Scions rev their engines in laughter. I need some hot rod cams and a good scratch repair place.

If they knock off the V-8 then they need to put the Stang name to rest. People don't buy muscle cars for fuel economy. Put the gas guzzler tax on em like the Cobras have now and be done with it. I want a V-8 dayum it!

I cant imagine ford producing a mustang gt without a V8. I could see them modifying the v8 to get better milage with new technology, but not dropping it all together.

I do liek the body lines of the S197, but people were talking all kinds of smack about it when it was nothing more than a proto. I will hold my opinions on the new model till it comes out...

i think the technology is there to get 35 out of a v8 but its gonna take some serious doing for ford to get it that way

I think its possible also, I think the oil companies are paying off auto manufacturers so theu can't make higher mpg engines. I dont see how it cant be higher!

I didn't bother reading most of this because I already know all the released info thanks to a member of our local Mustang club whose actually INVOLVED in the build.

They are releasing 2 V6 models as well as 2 V8 models.
One V6 will be a basic low-horsepower model
Where as the other will be a twin-turbo model, numbers arent gonna be past 300 or so...

The base V8 will be the CURRENT 4.6L at 350HP- minimum.
The other V8 will be the 6.2L Hurricane Motor, which is Direct-injection, over-head cam design.

There will NOT be a 5.0L model. No Boss remake, or Mach 1- as of now.

Car will not be a step back like the stang of the 70's- so they say now.

You guys have to realize that Ford is gonna have fun with this car because the new law requires a FLEET average of 34mpg...so there can be a few that arent that efficient...one such car will be the mustang, which is their flagship. They're not gonna nerf it at this point.

even with the v8s the mustang economy average isnt bad becuase of the glut of v6 models. if they could clean up the mileage on that model, we could get away with a bit more on the gt and still hold a good average.

i dont see the 4.6 making 350hp though if they want anyone to buy the 6.2

Ford see's how easy it is to increase power on the 4.6L...the 6.2 will be no less than 400hp. I hope its around 430-450...but i'm more excited about the cubes. We can always upgrade with aftermarket...its the cubes we've always lacked.... until now

I just got a chubby and a heart attack at the same time.... I will put in a custom order for the 6.2 for sure. I was going to trade in my 06 for an 09, but I will hold out for the 2010 for sure now.

any guesses on how much that 6.2 option will cost. i would hope it would be a different drive train entirely. i say over 5 grand for the engine and a 6 speed

I agree. I have NO idea about pricing. The guy that knew all of this could only release so much info- he had to sign oaths of silence and all that jazz. If any of the people in the room when they were discussing this let too much out...heads would roll for sure.
