I just graduated and like you said, about 90%-95% of the problems are metric. Some of the hardest problems they gave us were when the units were non-metric. I always converted to metric, worked the problem, and then converted back.

Perhaps one day we will all be singing off the same song sheet. I grew up with Imperial measurement but then in the 70's the government thought we ought to go metric. It was a bitch for quite some time but I am glad we did it. It is a much easier system of measurment as everything relates to each other by tens and a decimal point. Nice thing was, I was a mechanic at the time and the government payed a big chunk of coin to get me to buy metric tools. So, now I find myself living in the USA and I have had to dig up my old side of the brain, but even though I was brought up on the old system, I have to admit, metric is far superior.
I have fun when I visit family in Canada and I ask my Nephews to go find me a yard stick and all I get is a blank stare from them. lol.
