Painting valve cover questions

I just painted my valve covers and fuel rails last Sunday. As I mentioned in another thread, when I removed them I had 4 stripped holes in my cylinder head. I helicoiled them and got the covers back on ok. Finished getting everything back together today and just took the car out.

First was a short ride to a store. Once there I lifted the hood. I could smell the paint - like hot paint. Is that normal? Will that go away over time?

Then when I got back in and started it, I noticed the check engine light. So I shut if off and pulled out the manual. It said something about if the battery has been serviced (well i removed and reinstalled it) then the car is some kind of "not ready for testing mode". It said to drive 10 minutes on the highway and 20 city stop and go, then let it sit for 8 hours before starting again.

Has anyone ever had this before? Will the light turn off eventually or do I have a problem?

Thanks

The hot paint smell will go away once the paint is fully cured.. You did use high temp paint right??

Your fine then.. I baked mine in the oven at 175 degrees for a couple hours to speed the curing process along..

Thanks 1FUNFRD.

Does anyone know about my other question - the engine light. Is it on only because I disconnected the battery? Will it shut off? Or do I potentially have some other problem?
