new brake rotors and pads questions
I have new drilled and slotted brake rotors, Hawk HPS pads, stainless steel brake lines and ATE Super Blue brake fluid, ready to be installed. Now that my GT has more ponies, it's time to improve its braking ability. The oem brakes were adequate,at best, when the car was totally stock. Anyone have any advice on bedding-in new brake rotors and pads? Also, one member of another of another forum claimed that with this same mod, his braking increased by about 25%! Anyone have any opinions on this? Thanks in advance for you input.

i have the stop tech drilled rotors and same hawk pads as you. at the same time i switched to braided lines and racing fluid. the braided lines made the biggest difference on the street. I dont know about 25% and i dont know what the feel would be with just the pads and rotors. maybe your friends brakes were totally worn out when he made that switch and yea i guess it could feel like 25%.

Rotors and pads alone won't net a 25% increase. A far harder initial bite for sure but 25% seems to be an exaggeration from my personal experience. Maybe 10-15% and that's a lot and very noticeable over the stockers. The big benefit is less break fade due to heat and the rigidity of the stainless lines.
Calipers and a larger surface area rotor combined with a similar pad and stainless lines would likely be a 25-30% increase in a 4 piston set up and 30 to 40% in a 6 piston set up. |
