Best Shift Points?

Just wondering where everyone shifts at on a 1/4 mile run.
I will be taking my car to the track soon and as much fun as it is shifting right at redline im not sure im taking advantage of my powerband there.

I have been googling for quite some time but cant find an answer on the s197's.

I don't think there's a single answer for this. If you're serious, or have mods, you need to find your exact torque peak on the dyno. If you're casual about this, go with the factory specs on torque. Take the rpm's past peak far enough so that when you downshift you're solidly back in the upslope of the impressive part of the torque curve.

Everyone, as well as set ups, conditions, etc. are different.

Best bet is a good dyno tune; see where you are making power/tq thent get live wire and datalog a couple runs at different tunes/settings/etc. and see what kind of efficiency you are running.

Good luck, and remember... this is fun part of the process.

Its great to see that you are going to run the car; not just and repeat the obvious terms slung around in forums by those that couldnt find a track with Google Maps!

when I went to the track last Friday, on my first run I shifted at 5800 from 1st to second then 5800 from 2nd to 3rd then 5600 from 3rd to 4th. This got me my best time at the track.

If you powershift your car you will want to shift a little early that's why I shift right as my car rpms go past the 5500 mark. This puts me back into the torque curve.

shift at 4150 at the track isnt that a bit low?

5800 sounds ok? what makes sense to me is shifting so that when i drop down on the next gear im back in the 4000-4500 range? so either right at redline or 5800 would do some good?

and no powershifting for me, i tried that from 1st to second it wasnt a pleasent experience lol
