Anyone who has touched or seen hot rod cams get in here

Hey guys I just got home from a bussiness trip and found my cams sitting in my room. I opened up the big box and found two little boxes inside that the cams were in. So I opened up each box and am kinda confused about what I saw. First off the numbers on the side of the box are different. Second one of the cams looks like it has been used before. The best way to describe it is when you run a brand new set of headers on a car and the coating comes off and you see that copperish and blueish color to it. So it looks like it has been run in hot temps before. So I was wondering if anyone saw these differences when they opened up there cam boxes. I am going to call JPC racing monday morning when they open. What do you guys think?

Those do like they have been heated...I wouldn't trust it. If it were me, I'd send them back.

Ford has been known to have "heat markings" on camshafts and crankshafts.......in almost every Ford manual at work they say "while inspecting camshaft/crankshaft, you may see blue markings that look like an overheat condition, these markings are from the manufacturing process, do not replace the part solely on the blue marks" etc, etc, blah, blah,..........if they where used you would be able to see witness marks on the camshaft lobes. Call JPC anyways, see what they say, but i doubt seriously it is any problem.

and the two different part numbers will be for the left and right side camshaft.

the blueing is from the actual heat treatment... the lobes look brand new.. plus, a cam is profiled on a machine before it leave the factory, to be sure it is within specs... you may have some small markings from this. if you dont trust em, send them to me. :-)

I just got mine delivered this past Friday and they're the exact same...one is nice and shiny and the other has the blueing in between the lobes. I got mine from Sutton.

Mine didn't have those blue heat-markings, or the engraved #'s. Maybe mine were beta versions?

WTF, seems like a lot of these cams are showing up. I was hoping to be the only kid on the block with these for a while.
