Welded In Cut Outs...

I welded in Cut Outs (video will but up later today) sounds absolutely badass...Noticed that i lost low end torque, but if i hit it at 4K it hits harder than when they are capped. Since at the track your in the higher RPM's anyway i think it should help...who knows though..any thoughts??

+1 on the video! haha

And I'm actually going to be doing the same things after I get my cams in, I'm getting some electronic cut-outs so you dont have to mess with unbolting caps and what not. Should prove fairly fun to use on the street

The lost back pressure is the reason for the low end torq loss. As you state it should feel a tad better in the upper rpm range as you are free flowing spent gasses.

If you have time slips, hit the track and do a stare and compare, often times that seat of the pants better top end feeling is your brain playing a trick on you because your ears add to the sensation. Since everything is louder and better sounding, the rest of the body jumps on board. Only way to tell if you gained or lost anything is in the slips..

sounds like mine with turndowns after the H-pipe. low rpms with change in the cup holders gets annoying real quick. really didnt want to do mine that way but had a slight accident while working on the car and instead of trying to get another over axle tube i will just run it this way until my pypes mid muffler system comes in.

What do you guys think about this article? I got curious about the physics involved with backpressure and torque but could only find articles like the one below saying its not true.

The truth about exhaust backpressure and torque

I have heard little about the backpressure/torque relationship when it comes to exhaust.

What is the truth here?

If the back pressure is not causing a restriction then you gain nothing. You want some back pressure since it helps pull the exhaust gas out of the cylinder when traveling through the exhaust system.

I don't have cutouts. Why is mine so loud? or yours for that matter. When you took off from the parts store saturday...couldn't see you...but there was a lady leaving the store that grabbed her child for safety

^ awsome, you know you have a muscle car when mothers grab there children out of fear for their safety...

06- Not really my choice in exhaust note. Im all about being loud and having my presence known, but I like mroe of a clean sound. But as long as you like it is all that matters...

100% true. The key is velocity, not back pressure, but they are directly related and that is why there is such a large myth surrounding it. If you loose velocity by having bigger pipes, you will loose back pressure and torque, but the loss of torque is from the loss of velocity, not back pressure.

i don't have it uncapped all the time i can't handle not being able to think while driving for awhile hahaha....its just fun for like a couple days out of the month hahaha

and plus the video doesn't do it justice is very deep and when driven its not as raspy...

and another thing i welded the cut outs behind hte x pipe because there isn't enough room right after the header because of the frame rail being so close to the midpipe....so there is more backpressure then a normal cutout...
