Supercharger Cooling?
Hey guys,
My supercharger gets hot REAL fast it seems like and the heat soak SUCKS. My car sat for about 1-2 hours after a 30 minute drive to the dyno and I dynoed at 412 rwhp but when I did my tune it was 456. I don't think there should be THAT much of a drop. When we did the second run, right after the first, it dropped to 399 rwhp. What are some ways to improve my cooling? I am planning on eventually getting a bigger intercooler but I want to see what other options I have to cool down my S/C |

that is a long time to still have heat. did you run cooling fans between runs?

Bigger H/E, Mezerie waterpump, set your fans to come on at a lower temp and you could even spray some nitrous in there.

I was looking at maybe getting the Afco GT500 intercooler but it is a little pricey.
I wanted to do some intercooler spray but I did not know that it won't really help with our style intercoolers (water-to-air or whatever we use) |

IC spray bars will not work with the water to air HE's. What were the IAT temps for the dyno runs? Did you have the hood open during the "cool down"? Depending on how the tune is setup you can easily loose 50hp from heat soak.

You can look at Gords too. Not on his site yet, but he's making one that fits S197s.

First problem you want to know about is that the fan in front of the car will never ever produce the cooling amount of your car travelling down the road.
To see what I mean, next time your at the dyno, data log your pull and watch the AIT. Then drive your car around on the street for an hour, make a hard pass somewhere safe while datalogging and notice the AIT difference even after an hour of driving, from all that air being forced into the front of the car. Huge difference. Only way you can produce it on a dyno is to have the car in a wind tunnel simulating you going down the road. This is a classic example of why a dyno is only for a rough estimate and spec'ing in the tune. Time slips tell the true story. plenty of low listing dyno numbered cars out there, cut phenominal times. Just use the dyno as a tuning tool - forget about the number. Edit - this is a bad time of year (hot as hell everywhere) for tuning. Shops get hot, and in order to see the ambient adjustments they have to make those tweaks to the graphical numbers. Did they account for that? Lastly, Kenne Bell has a new cooer system that runs from the trunk. More coolant in the resevoir back there, plus whats sitting in the lines in routing.

I'll try again... Water/meth injection will greatly lower you temps and give you an octane boost to boot

Water/meth on a IC'd KB is a tricky situation. The only way it will work at all is if you port the bottom of the blower manifold under the IC. Spraying meth thru the IC has been proven not to work because the IC will cause the meth to coalesce on the fins, instead of remain in the vapor form. There is a reason you don't see any IC'd PD blower guys with meth.

Yea I wanted to stay away from water/meth injection. Also, if it makes any difference, this is currently my daily driver
Edit - I can't do any in trunk systems, I have a custom sound system that I don't want to take out lol
