3rd gear problem?
Hey Guys, i noticed today that if i shift fast or moderatley fast into 3rd gear it will "lock out" or hit something before it goes into gear i missed 3rd gear about 4 times today, not sure whats going on, fells like there is a big notch when i shift fast cant even get into 3rd gear unless i shift super slow and i still feel it , also it does this when the car is idle if i press the clutch in and push it to 3rd i feel that hard notch... is this a symptom of something bad? im going to tell the dealer about it in the morning has anyone experienced this?

Also at other places with much more people with the same issue. And other threads at places. There also appears to be some division over whether this is the syncros or general notchy shift feeling, or both. My guess is it's Tremec's design that contributes to the notchy shifting and a recent manufacturing defect led to a run of broken syncros. Who can say for certain though? ![]() Definitely talk to your service manager at the dealer. I got my transmission rebuilt at 3,200 miles under warranty no questions asked. I'd say it could be torque binding, but certainly not at idle. Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

Just an update, i took it to the dealer told the guy the symptoms and oh this morning when cold, shifting into third with the clutch to the floor i hear the nastiest grind i guess this was the common problem... the tech didnt hear the grind because it was warm by the time i got there but we took a ride and he felt the huge notch going into third, he said they just fixed an 08 mustang with the same problem so they are ordering parts and i should be good to go soon !! (hopefully)

I actually had a similar problem and started a thread on this in another forum.
3rd grinds 700 miles on car - ModularFords.com When my car was in the shop the service guy told me that this is something that's already on the board which means it's something that Ford is already aware of. Take it to your local dealer and they should be able to fix it under warranty. They replaced my synchros 1-4. Good luck.
