Thumper cams or Stage II SPR cams.
Well i had to be taken to the hospital last night for pain in my chest and side. It started when i was on the way to the track, i took some motrin and sat around at the track hopeing it would go away but no luck. I barely was able to drive home. Didnt get to run at all which sucks becuase there was a trans am running 12.6s ad 12.7s so i would have got some close races in. Its weird but at least at cecil county you dont see many mid to high 12 second cars. im either stomping someone who runs 13s or getting stomped by someone in the 11s or 10s.
EKG says no heart attack, dr said its probably muscular. I got some drugs out of it i guess. Anyway while i was at the hospital i was thinking. Another poll from someone who wants you to make their mind up for them. It is time for some heads to go on my stang. I love the stage II NSR cams, for a street car they are awesome cams. I wanted to put some ported heads to them and see where they could take me. But there isnt much point to that from a business perspective, if 12.5s @112 with 1.8 60s in august doesnt show you what those cams can do then adding ported heads and probably running 12.2 or better isnt going to convince you either. and since santa came early for me yesterday i was thinking, lets put some new cams to these ported heads. So modded mustang maniacs, what cams do you want to see? im thinking either the 127500 stage II SPR cams, These are the biggest cams that can be used with stock heads. They require spring upgrades and phaser limiters. These would be the better performers no doubt COMP Cams: STAGE 2 XFI™ SPR (Spring & Phaser Mods Required) 3 Valve Camshaft Sets RPM Range DUR DUR @50 LIFT LSA 950-6900 127500 XE264PH-12 264 275 229 236 0.535/0.550 112° Or does the consumer want to see and hear the "motha thumpers" Stage III thumper cams. This is a NSR cam but does require phaser limiters. From the overlap these cams are probably going to hit harder then any NSR cam we have heard to date. Performance wise you will not see the overall gains that you would with the 127500, but who cares about performance right? the specs are basically 127030 dur @50 LIFT LSA 242/262 .450 110 Last edited by 07stanggt; August 16th, 2008 at 08:46 AM. |

hope everything is alright, I say the SPR II Cams, I'm not worried about sound but would really like to see the gains with ported heads and big cams.

Whichever one makes you feel better Richard....hard to decide though on the two. Hmmmm
1- sound like you have a crap load of power or 2- just have a crap load of power I know...do one from each

SPR cams no doubt. Power > sound
And I hope everything is well with you.

remember my only choice is from a curiousty and marketing perspective. The spr stage IIs are the right choice. They will be in my car one way or the other in the end.and your cams are in the box thats in that picture up top under that thumpr t sheet. I will send them out monday morning. I will say thumpr cams but then again I am looking for a cam to add to a forced induction set up that is hopefully in my near future. Not too sure about the LSA with FI though. Seems kinda narrow for FI, might lose power.

yea i dont think you want the thumpr's with FI. look at either the stage II nsr or stage II nsr blower grind if your pushing more then 15psi. Or look at the SPR cams. If you want the idle with cams then the SPR cams are your best bet. Brenspeed has a video on their website of the 127550 cams that is the spr stage II blower grind on a blown stang.

these are the stage IIs. the spec card i sent you was a stage III. I dont think this car sounds good dont know if its the exhuast or what. Thats the blow grind the regular stage IIs should have some more lope to them. |

I like it. With the stock exhaust there's a noticable thump, lobe sound. Well you know. The install took me about 8hrs and thats with taking a break to eat and running to the store to get an extra socket. Very helpful to have an extra set of hands to loosen the cam phaser bolts and hold the sprocket & chain while you swap out the cams. Using the spring compressor takes some getting used to and figuring out how to install the followers back in. Very tricky. After you did one side its goes by quicker. Easy job but very detailed. This was my first major mod and I did it myself. I'm a novice to engine work.

Hey you should be proud of yourself then. Its a good feeling to swap your own cams huh? Come on up to maryland and throw these thumpr's on for me. You open it up yet, you will feel the difference up top, better bump the rev limiter up to 6500.
Yea i like the idle. |
