CAI Pre-Filter
Does anyone have one of these for their C&L Racer Intake?
Saw 1 car at the show in Indy last month that had one but couldn't find the owner to talk to him about it. I jacked up my filter and they're heller expensive...AND I like the look of them. This will cover up my epic failure and add some interest under the hood as well... BUT I'm wondering if it's okay for the C&L since K&M and JLT make them for theirs but C&L doesn't seem to offer it? Also - the C&L is a dry filter right? I've seen talk on other sites that people oil them??? Anyway - here's what I'm looking at: Replacement Pre Filter, Air Filter Pre Filters, Pre-Filter Thinking if I get one that's water proof, it will also prevent me from pulling the same stunt twice.

Well it might prevent you from making the same mistake twice but I'd still cover up the filter with a bag, better to (once again) accidentally blow up your filter than to suck water into the motor speaking from experience on the second one. For only 25 bucks I'd say try it.

Reps for even responding bwoody!
![]() One of the sites I was checking out said they are waterproof - one customer said he took it out of the package and took it straight to the kitchen sink because he didn't believe it but he said he put his hand in it, turned the water on and no water came through. But yeah - I feel ya...the filter doesn't look horrible now, but it annoys the hell out of me to see it.

IMHO I would not put on anything that might restrict the air supply.
Any good air filter will keep moisture out of the engine unless you squirt directly at it. About oiling the filter: Oil has an affinity for attracting dust. But could damage/rot the filter material. Some early air filters were nothing more than a container with oil in the bottom. Check on E-bay. You can get decent prices on K&N stuff. |

Thanks for responding Kobra! I haven't oiled my filter...I've seen others mention oiling it but the mechanic that I work with never mentioned oiling it so I'm guessing it's not necessary.
The prefilter is basically a fine mesh - do you think that would restrict the air flow? I think the K&N and C&L are basically the same...like Puffs and Kleenex?? If that's the case, K&N makes a nice orange or black prefilter so deduction is telling me it's probably okay...it's jut weird that no one seems to know any thing about it...

![]() I will buy a C&L when I replace it but I don't want to replace it. It's working fine it's just ugly now. Want to cover it up and make it a little prettier. Plus this will keep the flys and shit out of it.... Just don't get why K&N sells a prefilter for theirs but C&L doesn't... I'm guessing it won't hurt it though...

i don't think it will hurt any thing. i agree that the best option would be to jsut replace the filter but this will work to. and it might restrict air a little but you are not trying to get evry last HP from your car so again you should be fine.
