New to Modded Mustangs... and car modding
Hello everyone, my name is Matt and I got a 2006 Mustang GT in Tungsten Gray last weekend. I'm 17 and am pretty much new to car modding. My dad used to drag race and hot rod in his day and has told that I should avoid changing any one thing internally as it would require me to change a lot of things. I've been looking around and reading things and from what I can tell, though i'm not sure, getting a Cold Air Intake would be something, relatively, easy which wouldn't require me to change to much else. Is that true? If not what else would I need to get or change to make it work correctly and without constant problems.
Thanks in advance Matt My new ride

Sweet ride. Here's a link to all kinds of mods people have done in the past. http://www.moddedmustangs.com/forums...sion-more.html If your staying N/A the you should get the CAI/Tuner combo. You'll need the tuner for later on mods.

from what i read it would be a good way to start, you need to tune for it. i see that alot of people use the sct3 and intake package from bamachips so i bet thats what everyone else will tell you to run or something extremely similar, great looking car by the way!!!

welcome aboard Matt, nice car you got there. As far as first mod...the cold air intake/tune combo from bamachips is a great way to go. If you are content with the power now, I would look into a set of axlebacks for a new sound. I understand first hand about where your dad is coming from in saying changing one thing leads to others. I've been trying to fix my aftermarket suspension for months now, lots of time and money haha. In the end though you learn a lot about your ride and how it works, though it hurts the wallet a little.

Thanks for all the info, and the warm welcome! About the different brands of CAI's; what is the general opinion of the Roush CAI or the Ford Racing CAI?

welcome to the forums.
most people with the newer mustangs go with either the SCT/ JLT combo or the SCT/ C & L tuner/intake packages.

He's a vendor...Sales, Sales, Sales...do your research bfore you buy!!! Nothing against him, but there is an agenda...of course. My buddy 05blkstxgt ran 12.79 with a few bolt ons and the C&L. Proof is in the pudding so to speak! No cams, no gears (3.55's)FTMFW.

Let me clear something up for you roush stage II.
You need to do your research before you talk. First, I am a distributor for C&L not steeda. which means I make a lot more money selling c&L stuff then steeda stuff. I get steeda stuff for anywhere from 5% to 8% off through a wholesaler. I give the people on this site a 6% Discount, im not sure how good you are at math but maybe someone can explain what that means for you. I said steeda becuase i run it in my car and i like it. And that is the only reason their stuff is on my site. becuase even though i am not a distributor for them. they make damn good stuff. Since pics help some people i added one below. You do your homework. The mark downs on JLT and C&L are a lot higher and thus they are much more profitable to sell. Plus the buy in is a lot cheaper. to get good priceing on steeda you need to lay out a lot of money. For a grand you can have w/d priceing on JLT. and about three grand you get w/d priceing on c&L. Hence the fact that so many tuners push them. Steeda is $7000 just to get the first level of distributor priceing. answer any questions for you???? Next time you basically accuse someone of being dishonest and saying something they dont beleive for sales do your homework. Trust me if the the Cheap JLT or the c&l which i have plenty off sitting in stock were better then the steeda, it would be in my stang. Read the mod list im not affraid to drop a little coin in my car or switch parts to gain some performance. I have tried other cai's in my car have you???? Have you even held them next to each other and looked at them. You want research, look at some of the faster n/a cars on record and see what cai they were running. Its fine to say im wrong about the steeda being better. at this point the racer in me hopes a lot of n/a guys dont do what i do. But dont say im lying to sell stuff. cuase i make 4 times selling a c&L what i would make selling a steeda. and thats if sell the c&L for 10% off retail and the steeda for retail. I run 12.5s in august on any given night on a clutch that has 70,000 miles on with a 3/4 tank of gas and the front sway bar. You want to compare cars with et. lets look at MPH. Its kinda like what some people say about standard correction dyno numbers. Well i can say the same about runs you advertise that you did in october and cant duplicate. My numbers are from the summer and they are with a steeda. And like i said, i can run them anytime.

Kinda of a long read...most of it I didn't...but as I stated, no cams,no gears, and no b.s.
he ran a 12.79 Heck I don't think he even had headers when he ran that. I never called anyone a liar, but people can be swayed one way or another for sure. I couldn't care less about dealer mark up and such. You want to compare your car to his...well, with considerably less money tied up he ran roughly two tenths of a second slower than you did with alot less mods! The C&L Racer is a nice intake...end of story.

I went with a Roush cai and i love it. i could have went with the other brands but i did not because i think roush makes good products. they all add about the same power so why not just go with the brand you like and trust.

No doubt the Steeda intake is a nice piece, but I think the C&L Racer looks better, is of the same quality, and is cheaper, so the Racer is the best CAI on the market IMO.
