10,000 miles review- 2007 Mustang GT

so i have had my mustang to little over 10,000 miles... great car... fun to drive... great looking.... plus really turns ALOT of heads driving around Germany... (not imported by Ford)... i have kept everything stock... EVERYTHING... (i know so sad, but i have reasons)... i have a 2007 Mustang GT, fully loaded (execpt shaker 1000, GPS, and fancy mirror), i have gt package and 3.55 gears.... i have recieved many compliment, smoked a few tires, and destoryed a few gallons of gas...

But i have noticed a few things....

1) whenever the car is first stared (cold), during the first shift from 1st to 2nd, it will back fire.... it has happened since day one...

2) the (stock) radio antena mast is starting to loosen by itself... i have been able to catch it and tighten it back before i loose it driving down the road, but it still annoys me... i should go ahead and replace it with the shorty antenna anyway... i also have noticed that it has become SLIGHTLY bent... prolli from the wind when doing daily high-speed run down the autobahn...

3) passenger side door handle gets stuck in the "open" postion.

4) security is okay... locked my keys in the car once... i was able to open it with a coat hanger pretty easly in 20 mins or so... but i did set off the alarm 3 times doing so...

5) the first oil change is a PAIN... getting that stock oil filter off is a PIA... but possible...

6) insurance (for me) wasnt too painful....

7) car really keeps the heat in... heater works fast and great... but in the summer time... car doesnt like to stay cool... turn the AC on and everything is cool and nice... turn off the AC with the windows up... and within a few mins. you can feel the car getting warm...

8) i have (sometimes) problems filling gas into the tank... sometimes it will only fill up the tank half way before the noozle saftey shut-off clicks... this has happened more than once and i didnt notice it till after i paid and drove off....

9) mod information is out there... aftermarket parts are easy to find and buy... just choosing the right one or saving up the cash is the painful part.....

10) the stock tires dont get traction for shit in the rain... but i find that fun... car will slide if you want it too, but its easly controlled if you can drive...

11) I dont like how the radio doesnt show the name of the CD in each slot of the multi cd reader...

12) i dont like the lack of MP3 player controls in the radio...

13) i dont like the way it loads and un-loads CDs and how it switchs the radio... its not a easy task to do quickly... and prolli shouldnt be attempted on the autobahn....

14) i dont like the tach and speedo postions... should be switched....

15) dont like the SMALL numbers for the KMPH.... MPH easy to read... KMPH is a PIA... American car i know... but its a real pain trying to read the kmph...

16) dont like how when switching from 4th to 5th gear in top speed runs the car falls on its face..... pure aceleration from 1-4th, but in 5th... yeah, not so much.... but then again, its not that big of a deal... i dont stay in speeds above 120 for long periods of time anyway... (remember, its legal here)

mine backfires the same when it's cold, but just for a few min.

rather than buying the shorty antenna i would first just cut yours to the hight you want it. it'll save you at least 20 bucks depending on which one you were going to buy. also just add a touch of lock tight on the threads and you shouldn't have a problem with it coming loose.

i would take it in if you actually have a ford dealer there about the door handle. otherwise some WD 40 should do just fine.

if you didn't realize it already your alarm will become very sensitive if you leave the windows down. it will go off usually even if someone walks by to closely (motion sensors)

use a full synthetic rather than a synthetic blend if you don't already.

i agree on the radio. the cd changing options suck and it doesn't give you the name of the cd.

the gt 500 has the speed and tach in the proper place. wonder if you can switch it out for the gt guage cluster.

i hope you have gone well beyond the 120 mark since it is legal there.

Response to 1: they all pop (backfire) when cold and most of us love the sound it, and it goes away so not too bad.

Response to 16: 4.10 GEARS!

#8 - Issue with the gas tank. I fucking hate that. I think I found a pump at my local gas station that will finally work with my gas tank and not shut off halfway (which leads me to taking about 20 minutes to slowly fill my tank). Only took me about 4 minutes yesterday.

and honestly... with all the things i found... i still have no buyers remorse... i love the car... now i think the next time around i will by a used car instead of right off the lot... value did drop pretty darn fast....

yes, i have hit the speed limiters in the stang... but when you have the option of doing it daily... it looses its apeal... i run 90-100mph on the ride to and from work daily... no real point pushing it to much harder anyway... you get used to the speeds after a while and start noticing the fuel gauge... lol...

Buying used is a great option if you find the right car.

I don't regret buying used. I'm actually the 3rd owner of my 2005 GT. The first owner put about 3k miles on it. The second added another 15k over 3 years. Both took excellent care of it (it was also bone stock as they never changed anything).

I've only got 1400 miles on my 08, but I love it. Haven't encountered any of the aforementioned problems, and hopefully I won't.

One thing I've noticed is build quality - far superior to my Fox Mustangs.

Shit, I'm glad 5th gear is like it is, honestly. Otherwise I'd be getting <20mpg on the highway.

I can hit 120mph in 4th, so 5th doesn't need to pull for me

Hey af cop, where in Germany are you? I'm in the Regensburg area. I hear you about the autobahn, I've buried the speedo a few times and now I usually set the cruise control at 150-160k.

3.55's are perfect for Germany, we can drive faster on rural roads than most of you in the States can on the highway. I highly recommend a cai and tune though, it will wake your car up and give it a nice growl to the exhaust note.

Is it just my car that has a shitty alarm? It's never gone off in the 20k miles that I've had the car. Not once. I lock it all the time, and everything(sound the horn)

But it still never did anything. Someone broke into my car a couple months back, busted the window up thank god that was the only thing damaged. But the alarm never went off.

And to the topic creator. What do you mean about more mp3 player features? Unless you mean with the aux-input, the cd mp3 features seem pretty decent to me.

Are you sure you have an alarm? I thought mine had one too because it honked the horn and flashed the lights, but then I realized it wasn't really an alarm.

I just bought a Viper 1002 alarm on Amazon for $100. Trying to figure out now if its something I even want to attempt myself.

Yeah, I'm with Tribal on that, sounds like you don't have the active anti-theft alarm. A stiff breeze will set off the motion sensors on my car if the windows are down and I leave it locked.

Also the MP3 features are kinda bare -- it doesn't support WMA, text display is truncated and it'd be nice to be able to toggle random between folder and disc level, also why is it so hard to get a single track repeat function on stereos these days? The CD player on my Dad's old '91 TB supercoupe had more functions than these Shaker radios. Granted the Shaker's still sound decent for an OEM setup. But still, it's like they're actively trying to keep functionality from advancing....

Guess I'm just retarded then if everyone's right. I've got the paperwork with everything on my car from when I got it. Has all options except for the Shaker 1k. Could've sworn it said anti theft alarm on it.

And the mustangs radio has a single track repeat, or did I read what you said incorrectly?

Well if you have the active anti-theft alarm, take it in to the dealer if it's not working... easy way to tell if you have it for sure is if you have the little motion sensors near your map lights, they look like miniature microphones.

As for the repeat function, there isn't any. The only way to get any kind of repeat is to hit shuffle, and that is just disc level. I guess I could just keep hitting the back button when I hit a stretch of road that matches the song really well... but dang, why? Probably because the aftermarket stereo industry'd whine if Ford put in too good a stock system. Meh.

It's just annoying when there's features and technology available and the dang car maker doesn't put it in.

And don't get me started on the dang Germans and their lack of decent cupholders. Why do Europeans not understand Americans love to have large sodas and large coffees in their cars?

I use repeat all the time when I'm driving on my mp3 cd's. Just hit menu 3 times, and then press the up or down arrow to turn repeat on.

Well then. Thanks for the info.
Does it work on regular CDs or just MP3 discs?
Is it track level or disc level?

Usually I just plug in my 30GB Zune. I've only made two MP3 discs this past year, took 30 minutes picking out a bunch of tracks and kinda mad when 60% of them were skipped over because they were WMA tracks.
