Son Of A Bi**h!!!!!

well i had just left the car wash spraying off those nasty black bugs we got flying around here, and took off down the road, only to get about a mile and notice my temp gauge on FUCKING HOT. yea thats right, not just hot, it was fucking hot.........so i immedietly kill the car, coast to the side of the road and call my buddy who was in front of me. well anyways, before i keep rambling on and on and on, im 99% sure i blew a damn head gasket. Keep in mind, its dark outside so i cant diagnose it really well, but we let her set a while and FINALLY got the cap off the coolant jug, (it was under LOTS of pressure, not good).........put a little water in the car, cranked it up, and the water got sucked down, which rules out the damn water pump pretty much. great, right when i was getting back under my feet finance wise, about to buy some nitrous, this shit happens.........oh well im done ranting.

hell im a diesel mechanic, i know a little about these mustangs (enough to slap an engine in one in a few hours) and do all my own installs (cams, etc, etc) but im not too good trying to diagnose one of these things. but theres not that much that could be wrong, i highly doubt the thermostat is stuck, but hell you never know. im still going to lean towards head gasket.

anyone else wanna chime in on what they think????

no white smoke i already checked that, and it depends on WHERE the headgasket is blown, it might not be getting into the cylinders, might be external leak.

Keep it simple; did you check to see if fans came on, you could have disconnected the fans.
It happened to me; for NO reason I can imagin. Driving down the road, HOT! dont know why, like you said, water pump ok.. it wasnt 'till the next day and I cooled down did I find my elec. fan had disconneded!

The high pressure water maybe could have done it....??

im leaning towards Chads idea of the high pressure water at the car wash maybe doing something to my fans temporarily, because the car was running when i was spraying it down (didnt open the hood but i sprayed the grille out real good........i noticed the fans DID come on later after it cooled off...........
should the fans run with just the key on, engine off if the car is hot or not??

this is gonna drive me CRAZY........i just went and drove the car for a while, no problems what so ever.........i even left it idling in a parking lot for about 30 minutes with no overheat problems.........also i got on her pretty good for about a 1/4 mile and no concerns. i guess i might have dodged a bullet here, hopefully i caught the overheat before it did any damage to the engine (im sure it didnt)

I'd change that t-stat! From what I've read the '07's and up don't have 180* t-stat anyway...If you changed it I would put one in to help out between passes at the track. I've read the 05-06's already have 180* t-stat from the factory.
