hurst shifter ?

i am interested in a short throw shifter. i really like the looks of the hurst but have heard bad things about it. i know it may not be the best choice but is it a good shifter? would it be alot better than stock?

I have one and I love it. I think they made a second gen one that does not vibrate. But it is amazing.

My hurst is just the opposite...made for dragracing...awkward to use for street driving. Guess you can't have it both ways.

I agree Tacoma?

if you decide on the hurst or have any question about the difference in the shifters let me know.

I actually have no problem with the hurst at the track. But im talking about the new hurst. its seems better when your banging the gears to me.

some of them new and old do rattle some at certain rpms.

I have the old Hurst shifter and it does just fine, Only missed one shift at the track so far. The new Billet one looks pretty nice, MGW is suppose to be awesome but I have never used one. Some of the other shifters are great for the older stangs but they didnt get it with the 05 and up versions.

Love my hurst shifter. Had it since February. As said above only time I miss is when my hand is faster than my foot. But all is good.

hey, thanks for the good input on the shifter. what is the difference between the old and new hurst shifter. is it only mechanical or did they change appearance also. how noisy is the rattle.

The new hurst is billet aluminum. It has a different spring system to help with shifts and it has adjustable stop bolts. It also comes with its own front and rear poly bushings. You still reuse the stock bushing on the linkage but that is it. The new hurst is a 40% reduction in throw over stock.

The old hurst was stamped sheet metal, basically the same design as stock with a shorter throw. No stop bolts. And a 32% reduction in throw over stock. You reused all the stock rubber bushings on the old hurst shifter.

Both shifters can rattle, the old shifter was worst then the new. There are many opinions on why they rattle, all of them true. Just know that they do rattle for different reasons and some of them do it worse then others and some of them dont do it at all.

The mgw, steeda, and pro 5.0 have a different rear mounting bushing, its round. See below pic.

The mgw is the only shifter that you can truly adjust the throw and the height of the stick.

You can adjust the height of the stick on the steeda and pro 5.0 becuase it has different holes to mount the upper stick in. That will also affect the feel of the length of the throw.

Just like the hurst, you could get a shorter upper stick and this will make the pattern and throw feel tighter.

new hurst on the bottom, old hurst in the middle, pro 5.0 on top. Notice the circle in the pro 5.0. that is like the steeda tri ax and the mgw. It is suppose to help with binding under torq which can cuase miss shifts especially 2nd to 3rd.

well frpp if im correct is still selling the "old hurst" it was a frpp/hurst design. The billet aluminum hurst came out in april of this year i beleive, i would have to check, but around that time.

and no problem about the tacoma i guess. at least your not acting like you have a stang.
