Upper strut bar opinion
Hey guys, just had a question about which upper strut bar to get. I was dead set on the bmr bar, but i noticed that the one that edelbrock just put out seems to be a lot better b/c of how it bolts to the firewall too for extra support. Has anyone gotten this one yet? Which one is better? thanks.

Im also going to be lowering it very very soon, i just picked up some h&r super sport springs for a 100 bucks, brand new, today as a matter of fact lol, i just need to get the rest of the components first. I dont know if that will help or not but i figured i would just throw that in there lol!

cant give you an opinioin and im bias anyway. I dont know if it bolting to the firewall would make much of a difference. but maybe it does.
I have the bmr bar on my car and it seems like it does its job. though, i havent had it at a race track yet. |

I don't think a brace makes much difference on just a lowered dd, it's more for looks, go with what you think looks best, I liked the Bullitt brace so that's what I bought, can't say I noticed any change in handling.

Well, partsbill is right. the tower braces that are available to us aren't functional, well not nearly what the could be. The ONLY time that a strut tower brace is fully functional is when it is completely straight with no bends. Having bends or angles in it defeats the purpose. the ones with a a continuous bend in them are the best example. when pressure is put on the car, the tower brace will bend with it. BMW makes fully functional ones for their cars and i felt a before and after....and they are completely straight, allowing no room for bending or stressing.
i bought the steeda brace and the FRPP drop springs and some good gripping, low pro front tires. i have felt the difference with the springs and what little support the tower brings.. so get what looks best because thats all it's good for.

The three point brace doesn't stiffen the car any more than the two point brace.

For those that think these s197 braces are not functional, before we go bashing a part as asthetic only, take a ride in a car that has it, and then remove it and take that same drive.
I'll tell you first hand that it's a night and day difference, so noticeable in fact that when i pulled mine for powder, I couldn't stand driving the car. I didn't notice the improvement when first installing, I noticed the loss in handling once removed after driving with the thing on the car for a year. |

Here is one from Roush, it is simular to the BMR bar except it will clear a supercharger, the BMR will not.

lee that probably is the bmr bar. Roush isnt fabricated them. That bmr bar will fit over that roushcharger as well. its the whipple that nothing seems to fit over. and maybe the KB but i dont know.
edit that i can see a difference. but the bmr bar will fill over the roushcharger and saleen. And beef other factors will dictate how much you notice the strut tower brace. Maybe its not night and day on the s197 becuase its a fairly stiff chassis to begin with when compared to some older stangs and camaros. I agree with you. its not something that you put on and say wow this feels like a different car. but i notice the difference right away at the points that you would expect to notice it.
