build top end go n/a for a while or paxton 2200 with 13lbs of boost
I have been looking at my options and over the winter and spring area I am going to do the suspension, breaks, rims and tires. After that I was looking at the POWER and I have come up with one of two options. One get a stage 2 or 3 SPR comp cam and get some bbr or livernois heads, and do what 07stanggt did kinda(not trying to copy or steal the idea) OR get the paxton novi from brenspeed and put that sucker on and hopefully not blow up my baby. (the brenspeed kit runs 13psi at peak, not through out the power band and they assure me that there have been no problems with that particular set up, nor have i heard of problems.) And I do trust brenspeed. I would like a 11second car before going to italy for 3 years because my rotation is comming and I would like a well built car to come home to and drive. I have till december of 2009 to do this just wondering what you guys thought. Thanks

p.s. my long term goal is a complete motor ( 302 stroker, heads/cams) and about 16psi of boost with about 550-600rwhp.

What Brenspeed kit have you seen peak at 13psi? The highest I have heard/seen is 11#'s.

I didnt invent the concept of naturally aspirated V8s. so you would not be copying off of me. But you already know that.
Its just been a road less traveled on this 3 vavle until about a year ago anyway. But thats changed now. Thats becuase there was not really a lot of options in cams that made good power or had the sound that people wanted and so forth. When i started researching the cam and heads issue last year. I was told by every shop that 50hp with cams and heads was probably the best i can do. and that 350 n/a on stock displacement was the only reasonable goal. anything more would be a freak. LOL, the bbr car was out then and i said bbr got 384. most people said their numbers are bull. I was told to hit 400 i would need stroked, bored, cams and heads. LOL. I was also told that the nsr cams dont gain any power. I guess its a problem that most shops knew more about building 8 second fox bodies then 3 vavle n/a performance. But anyway, here i am, mission accomplised. I like to think in the top ranks of n/a power on 3 vavles with stock displacement. We will find out tomorrow night. My opinion of what you should do first. Well its hard to ever say you should go the n/a route. the power you can get from a blower is cheaper, quiter, and less headaches. I like n/a power so im biased, i also want to road race more often, and 389/359 whp, on a mustang with only bolt on suspension mods at a road course, its bad ass power, period. on the strip or on the highway, ahhh, not so tough, but i hang with some big boys. Plus remember, i got 74,000 miles on my engine, so i got some use outta my stock heads, stock cams, its not like i bought a new car and did that. Cant answer what you should do first, since i never considered a blower. And raw dyno numbers werent my goal. I just knew I wanted the most n/a and knew i could hit 400 that way. And the types of racing i would do was a factor, having a 600whp stang was never a goal. If it was me and i had a brand new stang with your goals. I would probably do the blower first i guess. I also forgot to mention that streetability was always the first rule when i considered any part. I wanted a car that was 100% streetable, meaning no loss in low end power and no loss in drivability. one reason i got stage II cams and not stage III. Not to say you couldnt drive those cams every day, i just wasnt going to find out.

well it's going to be supercharged later anyway but I was not sure that I should be beating her up too much, and the paxton will not make the torque needed with the brenspeed boost to bend or break the rods or crack pistons. The torque should be around 420-440, which is the torque on average for a twinscrew around 7-8psi. And i did the numbers and with suspension,brakes,rims/tires and the blower its around $12,000 and with all of the above and built top end its $9,600. I would love a streetable car that when I put the hammer down wakes up and eliminates the compition, so I might go with the supercharger first I suppose, plus I can do that myself(install). I'm still up in the air but thanks everyone for the input and I think I get the paxton and put that in first. We'll see how that goes.....

P.S. Did you test for second class yet? I have taken it twice and waiting on the results, but MA is locked up pretty bad compared to FC. |
