Fed up with 3650

I'm so pissed at this transmission. This 2nd gear grinding issue is really ridiculous. So far this year I've had 2nd gear synchro and gear replaced, tried to put a RAM TOB in but it leaked when being bled. Also had a spec Stage 1 installed at same time. Still grinding in 2nd. Got the TOB back from RAM (3 freakin weeks later). Had that installed and had 2nd gear inspected again. Gear was trashed but synchro was good. Trans shop tried an old racers trick, he ground down every other tooth on 2nd gear to allow the synchro more time to engage. Had the rebuilt RAM TOB installed at the same time. This time no leaking. Upon driving it home, TOB blew, had to limp the car home. Had car towed to local shop to have factory TOB installed. Emailed RAM told them I wanted a refund, they wanted to know what all the gaps, etc are. I told them the car's in the shop with the trans out and factory TOB being installed. They refuse to give a refund. I will never deal with RAM again. Got car back tonight, this was the first time testing it since 2nd gear had every other tooth ground down. Piece of junk still grinds into 2nd under high RPM shifting. I also have another symptom. When trans is hot, it gets hard to get into 1st gear. I'm so frustrated with this thing. I'm thinking about getting a replacement from new takeoffs for $699 but I'm afraid I'm going to have the same problem. I have a 4r70w sitting in my garage to put in it but I don't have the $$$ to have it rebuilt and buy everything I need to get it into the car. OK, sorry, just had to vent.

I looked into that but it would cost more than doing the 4r70w. And I will never deal with RAM again but I'm sure there are other clutch choices that I could use.

I did. The shop who replaced 2nd gear is a very well known shop with a great rep. They're as confused about it as i am.

If they are 'confused' about why a tr3650 needed a 2nd gear replaced... their reputation is now suspect. These trains are notorious for the problem you are facing (I went thru 2, original and one 'built' w/ 26 shaft... It would have been cheaper if I'd gone tr6060 in the first place...

JMO
good luck

My daughter's 02 GT grunts going in to 2cd when it's cold. It's sad that this problem has been going on for years and they can't correct it. Other brands of cars w/ manual trans don't do this.

I'll go with a the 4r70w before I go with a manual again. This car sees more 1/4 mile time than street time. I love driving a stick and have for years but for racing, I'm going to go auto.

That is a nice kit but I'd have less into converting to a 4r70w. The trans is sitting in my garage waiting to be rebuilt. i just need the money to do it.

All the items above are a Non issue with my car and as you all see with the vids floating around I'm hard as, if not harder than most, on this car. Other than disinegrating the tail shaft back in the spring (own fault) I think I got a factory freak, because even at my power level, I may replace my clutch when it's time with another oem. I'm that happy with my entire setup across the board.

You're still using the factory clutch? I was wondering if maybe that is my issue? I'm running a spec stage 1 since I'm not FI. I was considering giving it one more shot. Having 2nd replaced again and installing a factory clutch. I may go with a new factory flywheel as well since this one has been resurfaced.

Might be worth a shot.

I did just call ST Motorsports. Adam is going to give me a call with a quote on an install kit for the 4r70w.

that sucks man.

I'm still on the factory clutch too, at 65,000 miles and hard driving...santa claus doesn't give any breaks

Mine has been fine, but I'm starting to get that grinding into second at high rpms so I know what you are talking about.
