298 stroker
ok, let me get my facts strait here. with the 298 stroker kit from livernois you are basically swapping out parts, no boring honing etc. correct? Also if I get a local reputable mechanic to install it for me will it be safe to drive around a little before taking it to brenspeed for the blower and tune? Let me know fellas.

Anytime you rebuild the bottom end, you will be using new rings. Which means that the cylinders will need to be properly honed.
Boring is only done if you wish to further increase displacement. I don't believe you need to touch anything on the tune by doing the bottom end. I'm not positive though. I am sure someone else will know for sure here. |

Man I love this site!!! So much to learn and so little time. I am leaning towards the 298 stroker kit for my build now. I have to get everything figured out before I have the money that way I can get started as soon as I have it. I have to talk to a guy about installing it still but I am confident he can do as long as he is not too busy, (he does alot of resto mods etc). So its looking like a Livernois 298ci stroker kit and brenspeed paxton novi2200.

I've looked at this idea a few times as well, but to me, it seems like just buying the 298 short block (and some new heads and cams... cause why not?) and then selling your stock engine to recoup some costs would be about the same price as getting all of the machine work done to your old block.
Correct me if I'm wrong, though.

Man I dont know.....$5 grand for short block another $2 grand for heads etc....I think you would be looking at around $10 grand or more and only getting around $2-2.5 grand back from selling your stock motor. I still think it would be cheaper just to buy the rotating assembly and have it installed. I wouldnt think it would cost more than $5grand parts and labor. But then again I dont know either as I have never had it done yet.

the 298 stroker kit requires block prep to honor the livernois warrenty. Cylider hone of .002 for the rings. Line hone on the mains and for a long block i believe a deck plane. its also a good idea to let them take off any rough casting edges. these lead to cracks on these blocks apparently in some cases of making big power.

I guess I just look at it like "Go Big or Go Home".
I, obviously, have "gone home" for the most part so far

i am getting my short block built for 960.00
My heads are being ported and polished for 600.00 i already have cams so they will stay put. i am taking the engine out and putting it back myself so i save there. i bougt the steeda race delete plates for around 350.00 so really 960 plus 600 is all its costing me to forge my engine...plus 80 bucks for a gt 500 oil pump.

07 - I guess that isn't a bad deal at all. I'm in money-saving mode right now anyways (about to buy a house), so will most likely wait on the forged internals until NEXT Winter
![]() I'm PM'ing you about the port/polish for more info

only thing you do to the block is clean up the cylinder walls. Your stock heads and cams will work fine with the 298 stroker and s/c until you feel the need for more power.
