Newb Questions

I have been thinking about going with L/T headers, no cats & the factory axlebacks. I dont have inspections to worry about living here in ther corn state.

I know you can turn off the O2 sensors so it doesnt throw a CEL.

1st question: Doesnt the engine computer use the info from the O2 sensors to properly adjust the air/fuel ratio??

2nd question: What are the con's to eliminating the cats??

If this is in the wrong section, feel free to move it.

1st answer: i don't want to say something stupid about the 02 codes cuz i don't know.

2nd answer: cons for the cats:

Stinky exhaust ALL the time, Loud cabin noise, Ozone depletion (like anybody here gives a fuck) You're more prone to get pulled over for the noise.

Pros:

better flow and more power, especially with the LT's.
More noise so you can terrorize you local gas saving hybrid car club.

From what i've heard, its the front sensors B4 the cats that uses info for fuel/air ratio, the rears just tell ya if the cats are working (hense why you can turn them off) I have the O/R Prochamber and have been running with the CEL on 4 the whole summer with no problems..Someone can correct me if i'm wrong thou...

i wouldn't personally run with the cel on, just because the computer knows something's wrong, espesially w/ the air fuel ratio. i'm not an electronics guy, but when light says somethings wrong....i take the hint and correct it. the least you could do is turn them off...but i think there's a code you can load in that gives the computer a false reading of the o2's and it will actually pass inspection....correct me if i'm wrong somebody..

The upstream o2s are the important ones, the rear o2s only make sure that the cats are functioning.

There really isn't any.

What midpipe were you planning on running?

The cabin drone really depends on what axle back you are running, again, the noise level depends on your axle backs, so don't count on being hounded by the cops unless you are running loudmouths or something of the sort.

Riding around with the CEL on won't hurt anything, the only problem is, you won't be able to tell if another problem exists because you will be used to seeing the CEL on.

I have that exact setup.
It's loud enough, but nothing obnoxious.
It sounds stock just a few decibels louder at WOT.
I get compliments DAILY.
And there is no "stinky" smell....its the smell of burning fuel- it is amazing.

DO IT and be a man.

JBA.

You HAVE to buy the corresponding pipe to the headers you buy.
I have JBA 409SS with No-cat H-pipe. I went to the track and got a deal from a vendor. I would suggest these if you get a deal...if you want to spend the money go for Kooks- they are the best. If not (which I understand) I vote JBA or Hooker or something like that. BBK and MAC arent bad. But I vote whatever offers an H-pipe is the way to go. X-pipe with LT's just sound too...european.

Just pop a squat behind your car and inhale deeply for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
