I guess my question is. What are the chances, that one shop didnt set my gears up right, and then i get a assembled axle with 4.10s that are not set up right? or is there something that is messing things up? pinion angle? What else coud it really be.
This rear was whineing on the day after the install though. |

I will have to call the place i bought it from and find out. There is no warranty on it. I ask them, considering ford axles dont come with 4.10s what if have a problem with it and they said if you have a problem call us. We will see. For the 900 i paid i can rebuild it and still come out ahead. Its just the point.
LOL. I also got walked by a 6 banger. Does it make it alright since it was justin burcham driving. we went from a light after we left the shop. He has a new 6er supercharged thats pretty fast i will say. |

Rich I know I spoke to you a couple days ago about this...my question that I never asked though is, how did you know there was something wrong back there? What did it feel like and how bad was the gear whine? Sometimes I hear a little howl but I think it could be my intake as it doesn't sound like it's coming from the rear and I only hear it when the heat is off and the radio is off with the windows up

I just know when something feels different about the car. I cant really describe it piggy. Im a driver. By trade in many ways.
The only way i can describe it is that the rear felt rough. I had people drive it but you know the normal answer is hey its all the mods. But i know what the mods feel like. Justin drove it around for me for like 45 minutes the other day with both of us in the car. he finally started understand what i was saying. Still cant track it all down. So, for one there is a engine vibration at about 2800, thats harmonic what are you gonna do, might be the cams or something. Im not getting rid of the k member i love that mod. Put the stock driveshaft back on. Eh, better with some old suff i was feeling but the rear is still rough. The whine was intermittent. Didnt hear it the first day. then when i got to sheperdstown WV the next morning on the way to the track, and you know im slowing down for traffic and lights for the first time since leaving my house in maryland i hear the whine, when you let of the gas. since then i just hear it whine sometimes. |

and to answer your question piggy i dont think you would mistake gear whine for the intake.
You could. maybe someone else could comment on that. But mine even though it isnt loud you can still tell its from the rear. You dont hear it when the radio is on or windows are down. But when you let of the gas you hear it whineing. If it howls your in trouble. I never really hear whineing from me intake, my long tubes sing enough that ive had some newbs ask me if i have a supercharger, but again thats a different noise. |

make sure the bearing preload is correct...
I have a hunch the pinion bearings where reused and they started to walk on you... I say this because if its the rear's I've on the internet (take offs, then 4.10's installed) I'd say its due to poor quality control.. yea you can reuse pinion bearings... but WHY? In laymens terms, I dont think the pinion was in the ring deep enough... but cant say for sure w/o pics I have abused a lot of Richmond Gearsets.. both in chevy's (my 408 truck, old SS camaro and my t/a) and 2 fords (a pinto with a solid roller 347 mouse, and my f150) frpp are in my 08... and they do rock Last edited by qwik48r; November 26th, 2008 at 08:31 PM. |

As I was reading this is all I was thinking of also.. Just upgrade.. At some point you will want alot more power... Just makes sense... What doesnt make sense is your luck.. I think you need a detox of some type... A Karma Detox or something...
I hope everything works out for the best man...
