Techco Watts Link Install

About a year ago I lowered my Mustang about ¾ front and 1 ¼ in the rear with Vogtland Springs and D-Specs shocks and I was almost happy with the improve handling but not with the rear being kick left over ½ “. I didn’t just want the adj Panhard bar, I wanted something better. The Saleen kit was what I was looking for but could never get my hands on one in Red. Then Techco came out with their kit and it seemed like a better design so I went for it.
The Techco Watts Link arms are strong lightweight billet aluminum and the Pivot design uses fasteners in double shear as opposed to single shear design which puts all the force on one side of the connecting bolts. The arms utilize solid metal spherical bearings in conjunction with polyurethane bushings. The design results in no slop but allows unrestricted movement throughout the entire range of suspension travel.

I have had the Techco setup on about a week and the only way I can describe the feel of system is when you go around a turn it’s as if the “rear wheels are tuning the car”….if that make any sense. The car seems to turn faster, more direct and with better control. If you nail it coming out of a turn and break the wheels lose it’s much easier & quicker to correct. The rear end is perfectly centered and stays that way regaurdless of suspension movement.
I took it ATCO raceway Friday night (35 degrees out) for a couple of runs and the car held a controlled straight line every time. I may not have the best times for my particular combo but I had my best times to date and all 6 runs were the closest times I have ever run. Now I just need to get rid of the stock tires…..spring time maybe.
60’ 1.971
¼ 13.189
MPH 104.11

It seems like I only ever get to a track event in November and each time it’s been cold so I can’t contribute the slightly better time to the cold.

The install took all day (no lift) with a few breaks and went together pretty easy.
The instructions are pretty good but I made some suggestions to Techco in their sequence as to when you should torque some bolts to have access to them as well as a parts list.
Take off existing sway bar, diff cover, Panhard bar, Panhard brace.
Install 1 mount each for driver & passenger sides
Clear diff housing face, install New Watts Link Diff cover with RTV sealant
(let RTV dry awhile before final torqueing of bolts and filling, read instruction)
Install center pivot with 22mm bolt, install control arms (torque them now)
Attach arms to mounts then attach brace, torque bolts to specs
Install new sway to axles first then sway bar links, torque bolts to specs
Fill diff cover using clear hose attached to end of plastic bottle and side it in between right exhaust pipe and trunk pan.

I used Fords recommend gear oil and modifier, taped a clear 1 ft hose to the bottle and had almost no trouble putting in the gear oil….the trick is let the suspension hang for clearance and use the clear hose.

I have to thank the guys from Techco for their help. Bill for all my technical questions before I ordered this system and Carlos for help getting it to me quickly.
They seem to running a very professional operation.

Pics they were taken from my garage floor and the car had just come in from a rain
More pics in My Garage link if someine needs more info later.

Pics are of the following:
Complete kit with new thicker sway bar
Watts link diff cover
Driver side mount with arms & brace
Passenger side mount with arms & brace
Control arms & diff cover

Hey man, no offense. happy thanksgiving to you. Im just in one of those moods today you know.

But man you either work for that company, you copy and pasted something from their site. or you just normally talk like a guy on a infomercial.

Anyway good right up though.

Couple of questions, lca's and brackets got rid of the kick out on my car. you dont mention them but do you have them, also what air pressure on what tires/wheels are you running.

And by the way i didnt see a price on that kit.

You guys are tough...no I don't work for Techco....I'm retired and just trying have some fun...this is my first post here with any detail of my mods because it was the most time consuming and the most expensive mod I have done so far. I did copy my own post I put up on Modular Fords because it was suggested to me by another member here to post it because it was so Mustang specific. I used a lot of good technical post from the forums that I have learned from & thought it was time to give something back.
My understanding is the most of the Techco group are formerly from Saleen.
Just my 2 cents...

Oh...I'm just a detail son of a b---- when I start looking into buying something.
Designing computer systems, writing contracts and sort of selling services for 21 years in the Information Services business was one of my careers....been retired for last 6 yrs.

And no lower control arm brackets...don't want anything else lower on the car.
I am using J&M control arms because their design made sense to me with the ball socket they use in each connecting bolt ....don't know if it's better then others but the price was right for trying it out. I use the stock upper control arm and a Spyder Shaft.
Stock 17" Pirelli tires at 21-22 lbs (at the track).
A list of the other mods are in My Garage section.

PS: 56 isn't old yet....you'll see, it will get youger looking to you every year

NO NO man dont me wrong brother thats why i said im just in a mood. i dont care if you did work for them. its a good write up and a welcome topic in my book. it just sounded a little informercial, I dont mean that in a bad way.

But what other suspension mods do you have. Im into road racing so its a interesting topic for me. I just have full bolt on suspension mods now, lca, uca, frpp springs, bilstein shocks, race a arms, bmr panhard bar, then i have the k member, had bmr swaybars but like to run stock swaybars, use STB once and while.

Long term im thinking sticking with panhard bar and going with a coilover converstion. But what did this watts cost?

The lca brackets with the LCA after lowering springs is a great thing for handling. That is what got rid of the kick out for me.

so you mainly sound like a drag racer? talking about 22psi at the track, must be straight line there. what possesed you to get the watts link for that.

What's with all these recent Techco plugging threads by supposed satisfied customers? I don't think I single one of them has been here for more than 20 posts.

Here is the list of mods from My garage section.
Stock Auto,
WMS Air Induction w/ram box, Ford Intake cover
JDM Tune,
FFR 3:73 gears,
Spyder 1 piece Alum drive shaft
Magnaflow cat back pipes & mufflers w/Pypes X pipe
J&M Lower Control Arms,
Vogland Springs lowered (3/4 " front, 1 1/4 rear)
Toyco D Spec shocks
MRT Hood Struts
Custom Charcoal metalic stripes/panels front & rear
Tinted windows
Sound Proofing from front seats to rear
Raised passenger seat 1 1/2 "
Techco Watts Link
13.303 @ 103.97 11/2006 Raceway Park
13.221 @ 102.73 11/2007 Raceway Park
13.189 @ 104.11 11/2008 ATCO Raceway Photos Of Silverfox's Mustang

I have been looking over the Saleen watts link for over a year because it was simple in design and when I saw a few of the Techco post on ModularFords forum I started looking it over. I liked it even better....seem like a good Christmas present to myself. I have only had the call to the drag strip 3 times in the 2+ yrs I have it, mostly because it is easy, they are close to where I live here in NJ. I would like to take the Mustang on a road course and a new one was just open late this year....so next season that is where it may go next....but my understanding is that is a lot more expensive to race on...so we'll see how it goes in the spring.

Yes its expensive. 250 for friday at the track at summit. dont know what other prices are. Hard on brakes, hard on tires, as hard on your drivetrain as you want to make it. But its the most fun you can have.

interesting mod list. Raised passenger seat? And the sound proofing is on my to do list as well.

well either way you are probably the first watts link post i have seen in this forum. Congrats on the mod.

Nah, I don't buy these Techco guys sincerity. I'm really sorry if I'm wrong, but the probability that all three would just pop in here, at nearly the same time, ranting about a company I've never seen posted here, is just tooo much.

A big list of mods doesn't mean in any way that you don't work or benefit from the thriving company.

In the guys defense i will say that its a double edge sord. You stang boys travel in packs, and you do it with your shopping habits as well. One guy buys something post it up 10 guys ask me about it.

It seems like one minute one company is hot and everybody is talking about it. The next that stuff is junk and this is what everybody wants. Its like the boyband of the week.

For a while stingers were everything. Then it was bassani. Had a month where i sold 15 hurst shifters. Havent sold one in a couple months now. Had a week where i sold 7 panhard bars.

But who knows. Your probably right. We have a couple company boy lurkers on here that chime in with a plug here and there. I still like the fresh topic.

I like the quality of Techco's stuff, at least from what I saw in person at their open house. I got an up close look of this watts links installed and not installed. It is solid and has a great design. I don't care if they do or do not have guys posting about their product. Only time will tell if their product is really that good or not. If it is that good then people will start buying it.

Maybe these guys are for real, maybe not.

Independent of that...

I've read on a few different occasions, just read-not experienced, that attaching the watts link via a differential cover, was a good indicator that you were dealing with an inferior design. Lakewood, Steeda, and Fays2 all clamp to the axels (I understand this is an issue, but less so than torquing your differential walls). Saleen, Brad's Custom Auto, Chicane Sport Tuning, and Techco all mount to a custom diff cover provided in the kit, except BCA which comes with some cheapy adaptor bracket. Is one design better than the other?

Mickey,
I raised the pass seat because my wife complained she felt like she was sitting on the floor.
Roadrunner,
I bought the Techco unit because I like the design and it was from the same guys who did the Saleen design....I don't work for any of them...do your own research on them before you go shooting the messenger ......it's Thankgiving ...
I hope you enjoy the Holiday.

Do my own research...? Could you clarify that? My research is what caused me to ask about the different designs? If I would have found a definitive answer, I wouldn't have the question.
Happy T-day to you as well.
