Twisted Stang

My friend told me that I shouldn't have my S197 on jack stand because it will bend my Stang in the middle. I think that might be true with the older Stangs.
What do you guy's think?

if it's on 4 stands, it should be fine, because it's supported on all points of the frame, not the middle....

Putting a car on stands via the frame is just a bad idea in general. If you talking about raisng the car by the axle and control arms, that's no different than having it set on the ground.

These cars are more rigid as you mentioned over previous gens.. I just would be considerate of prolonged periods of time on stands in general..

The first winter I had my car it was on jackstands from November to March as I was working over the entire car basically. No issues from that..

no the LCA's (lower control arms) are the things that come down and are connected to the lower end of the front wheel hubs.

How 'bout and SN95 on ONE jack-stand

I agree with two-stands under rear-axle and the second set under frames up front. Not a fan of under the LCA's as they are connected to springs and not so stable.

Now this thread has me paranoid that I'm doing it wrong. Not the back so much as the front. Does this look ok?

Looks fine to me....

I just pull mine out a little further, just before the lower control arm pivot but in the same area.

That's a really secure way of standing the car Humphrey. The only thing I would worry about is if your leaving the car up for a long time (month or longer) is that you widen the stands up front.. There's room to suspend the car just a tad further to the sides. Thats a personal feel based on being under these things alot. Not that my way is better than this. I do the same on ocassion with my car because it's an entire production getting the car in the air just because of the cervini kit and lowered suspension.

I'm with you, those front stands look a little close together. Any closer and you might as well just go with one.

Thanks for the comments, folks. Next time up I'll have the front spread the sides a little more. Glad this thread came up. I've never heard about the middle twisting before. Mine is never up for a month at a time. At least not yet.

When I don't need the suspension loaded and those front stands would be in my way, I jack up one side and slip two stands under the factory jack points. Then go to the other side, jack it up and put two more stands under the factory jack points. Four stands, car is secure in a couple of minutes.

Thats how I always put the car up. Then if I need to secure it further or need the suspension loaded, I will put stands under the axle and up front sort of as pictured above.
