Wheel Hop??

Ok, so it has rained here in OKC for a couple of days and I noticed something on my 05 that is a little confusing. I'm not sure if you guys have the same problem but here it goes. On dry roads I can smoke the tires all day long with out any wheel hop what so ever but when it rains i cant touch the gas without the whole car trying to shake itself to peices(I dont really try to spin the tires in the rain but some times it just happens). Whats the story and how do I get it to stop? One of my autocross buddys said it might be a cheap tranny mount or something like that.

What your describing sounds more like the everyday wheel hop issue cause by a poorly designed rear suspension. Don't get me wrong, it works, but these cars wheel hop like crazy.

Wheel hop is mainly caused when the tires break free, but begin to attempt and get traction. So on the dry roads when your purposely taking the tach upwards of 4 grand to lay down a nice heater, the tires just smoke right past any ability to get traction.

In rain you do the opposite, you use less throttle to keep the car in control in an attempt to gain traction, however the tires are slipping, then trying to grab, alternating between getting and losing traction. At lower RPMS wheel hop is enhanced as the tires try to bite and get that traction. If you just matted the gas it wouldn't do it.

The obvious LCA UCA parts will help, along with adjustment in driving styles in rain situations.

yes, UCA (upper control arms) and LCA (lower control arms) will get rid of that wheel hop forever!

I highly recommend *BMR*

Thanks for the help and suggestions guys. I'll be asking more of these questions in the coming months as I rework the car for the next racing season.
