TCI - TECHNICAL INFORMATION: Torque Converters Explained

basically an aftermarket torque converter will get you into the centrifugal SC powerband off the line so there is less lag in power.

holy crap.....vortech H.O., 4.10's and a 3000-4000 stall. That would be beast mode.

you know about your torque converter attached to the auto transmission? Well a stall converter allows you to hold the brake and rev the car up to 3000rpms and then launch. So you can launch like a manual transmission car.

With the Vortech you will need the 4.10 gears because the Vortech makes absolutely no extra power below 3000 rpm's. The Saleen blower will make power right off idle as soon as you hit the throttle. It will have stump pulling torque and will pull all the way to redline. You will use more gasoline with the Saleen even when taking it easy on the throttle. Probably 14 mpg compared to around 18 mpg with the Vortech.

or you could get the edelbrock e force kit from Mustang Performance Parts & Upgrades by Brenspeed its a good blower and its easy to install too. You should go with whats easiest for you. But the vortech and 4.10's sound like a good combination.

If gears are installed correctly they won't whine. If it were my car I would go with the E-Force kit too. It's the best price and it makes plenty of power right off idle. I had a centrifugal blower on this '05 and I hated it. I like instant boost of the Whipples, KB's, E-Force, Saleen, Roush TVS, not a centrifugal. You have to ask yourself... do I want instant boost or do I want to wait for the motor to rev for boost? Tell your mechanic that all of these blowers come with very detailed instructions that make the job easy. Any mechanic that's afraid to install anything but a Vortech sounds a little scared to me.

Just decide on which style power adder you want and tell your mechanic to buck up and do it.

Welcome to MM Ralph. I think he needs to go with convenience. If he has a person that can service the car for the Vortech I think that will be best for him. If he was here I would say hey if you like that instant response then go for the twin screw. Personally I am thrilled and happy with my Paxton centri.

HEY EVERYONE!

I don't know if you have been following what the op is saying. But All he can get where he is.....is a vortech. The other superchargers are more rare where he is, but he can't get service on those if there is a problem and if he wants it tuned it will be harder for him. It is like taking our car to a LSx tuner.

The vortech is a solid unit. If I had an auto I would to a t/s saleen kit. But he is not here.....he is in europe. If he says vortech like he has on this page help him build the vortech car. Just help him out....he is new.

Now living in Washington State. Drag raced for about 20 years. Supercharged cars, nitrous, etc. Ran Super Street and Supercomp in the NHRA. Have been around the performance industry for more years than I care to mention. What do you need help with? Making a decision? I have good contacts with Vortech/ SMS/Edelbrock etc. I also have a good working relationship with the guys over at Superchargers On Line and talk to them on a pretty regular basis.
