Steering Wheel Shake

What can be the cause of this? I notice it right around 40mph and it gets considerably worse as speed increases up to 60ish. Right around 70mph it seems a little bit better.
I am driving a 2007 Foose Stallion. The rims are 20" and I have heard the low profile tires can cause this but mine seems really bad! I took it to the dealer and they balanced the tires and said they checked out on the variation. This shaking is so annoying it takes away from the fun of driving the car!

Are the 20" wheels stock or did you upgrade? If so, maybe your suspension can't handle the 20's.

It's possible one or more wheels are out of balance, or you have a broken belt in one of the tires. See if you can take it to a dedicated tire/wheel shop.

Its quite possible that there is a defect in one of the tyres, they are very hard to spot. I had a similair problem with a BMW back in the UK.
Took me months and in the end had it totally off the ground, spun each wheel and let my hand hug the tyre and I could feel the defect.
May not be that though.

Indeed. Sometimes you can detect a broken belt by running your hand along the sidewall of the tire, but it can get harder to find with lower profile tires.

The wheels are the 20" Foose Nitrous wheels that were put on at Unique Performance where all the Foose upgrades were done. The suspension is also done by them so I would assume this would accomodate the wheels.

I would go back to Unique if I were you. Also, Double check your lug nut tightness.This sounds too easy and silly, and it is rarely forgotten, but it's the last thing you want going wrong out on the highway.

The business that sold the tires should fix the problem or at least identify the problem even if they blame you for hitting a curb or something.

When I first picked the car up from the dealership the sales guy said there is a shake in the steering wheel but his manager told him it should stop after about 600 miles or so. Can't remember the exact reasoning but something to do with the tires.
GTNorm-Funny, well not really, but odd that you mention hitting a curb! I actually did hit a curb about 24 hours after picking up the car! It was baaaad too. Put some scratches on the rim. BUT, as I said, the steering was shaking when I picked it up and it did not change after hitting the curb. When I brought it in to my local dealer, they checked everything out and balanced the tires. It seemed to ride better for a week or so but has been getting progressively worse ever since.
I have contacted my sales guy to tell him the shaking has continued and he is now in touch with someone at Unique Performance.
Sooo what do you guys think? From what I have described does this sound like a tire problem to you?

Taking 600 miles for a vibration to go away is absolutely ridiculous. The guy is shooting you a line of bullshit. If there is a vibration in a car, there is something mechanically wrong. This is not a matter of breaking in something. Either you have a warped rim that balancing cannot overcome, or a bad tire, or another mechanical issue that arose coincidentally at the same time as you made this change. Rare, but it is possible. Perhaps something with the driveshaft or in the rear end, but I doubt it.
Just because they told you they balanced the tires does not mean shit to me at this point, since the manager is obviously full of shit at this point. There may be one wheel/tire that is so off, they can't get it balanced correctly, and they are telling you whatever they can in the hopes of getting you to go away.
If the steering wheel is shaking, it is 90% likely that the problem is in your front end. If the vibration is in your ass, it means it is likely the problem is in the rear of the car. So, you probably can narrow it down to one or both of your front wheels/tires being bad or not balanced properly.
I would be riding Unique hard about getting this fixed, and if you haven't told them about hitting the curb, don't tell them now.

Sounds like the same exact problem I had. Turned out 3 out of my 4 tires were out of round. You more then likely have one or two out of balance, or out of round. If they are out of round any good tire shop that does force balancing will be able to tell you, then you can get them replaced under warranty like I did.

Thanks guys! I appreciate all your info as I am just a chick with a cool car and little knowledge of what makes it go! LOL!

I am still waiting for word back from Unique Performace to see what they have to say about this.

MM-What do you mean by ,"out of round?" I would assume it has something to do with the tire(s) not being perfectly round? I did tell them to look for flat spots in the tires when I brought it in for balancing. They told me there weren't any. I will have to check with them to see if they do force balancing or not.

I bought the car from a dealership about 4 hours from where I live. That is where the manager told me the 600 mile story. I had the car over to my local dealership for the tire balancing. I have friends who work there and they always take good care of me so I do believe they did what they knew how to do as far as checking the tires and balancing but possibly I should take it someplace that specializes in tires???

UNZip-The shake definitely feels like it is coming from the front end so it must be something with one of the front tires or rims, right? When I hit that curb shortly after picking the car up, which I bought brand new off the truck from Unique Performance, the wheel/tire that hit was the rear right. And like I said, the shaking was there when I picked the car up! This is so frustrating!

my 07 is similar, around 50-60mph i get some steering wheel shake, at least more than normal. luckily my wife works at a dealership in the service department so she is taking it in with her tomorrow.

my wife took the car to work with her today (Beach Ford), they rotated and balanced all 4 wheels/tires and that solved the problem.

The service rep told my wife that all 4 wheels were out of balance bad and they threw in the rotation for good measure. All this was warranty covered but maybe this should be a recall issue as quite a few of us have noticed it.
