Who are you calling Stupid? People how have worked their ass off and have some money to burn? Stupid is thinking your making a investment on a high dollar luxury item that depreciates soon as you drive it off the lot. You can't take anything with you when you die so why not have something your passionate about and can enjoy until you do?

I don't understand how people can make personal attacks on how someone spends their hard earned money.

this site is just down on gt500s thats all. A muscle car site that bashes a 500hp mustang. The most powerful fastest factory mustang ever. sorry termi fanatics there is a new sherriff in town.

It really just started becuase the homos that write for the magazines started bad mouthing the GT500 for the same reason they bad mouth all muscle cars, because then dont handle like a miata. for a street car its a fucking dream machine period. Like i said people said the same thing about the original gt500, too heavy to be road racers. LMAO look how much money they bring now. european exotics from the same era dont bring as much coin.

You misunderstood what I was saying and underlined the point I was making. They are worth what they are worth as a car (to be driven) and worth what they are worth to the person buying it (I've spent more than enough on mine) but as you rightly point out, what's stupid is paying vast amounts of money in the false belief it is an investment which it seems to me, it isn't and that's the "stupid" I was referring to. The question was whether they are going to be worth more if Shelby dies and my reply was meant to say only to stupid people paying over the odds believing it's an investment. No offence intended to you or the GT500.

As for people and how they spend their hard-earned money, that's up to them too - we live in a capitalist society - but there's no doubt that if nobody paid a premium to greedy dealers, the price would be list and everyone could afford one. But that's a different issue.

Now I'm off to sell more miracle snake-oil on ebay.

Back in the day people said the 67 gt500 was too nose heavy for a race car. Still bringing some serious coin arent they.
I don't have a Vette, I have a supercharged Mustang GT. I did have a C5 Z06 for which I paid $35k back in 2004 and in 2008, they're still selling for $35k but you know what, I think that's because people are already categorising them as "collector''s cars" and it seems to me that these days, anything is a collector's car if you convince yourself it is.

I'm not knocking the Shelbys, just what they're being sold for as "investments". Putting a blower on a Shelby GT is great but it's a lot more expensive than putting one on a straight GT and putting a blower on it would destroy the concept of it being an "original collector's car" if that's your view of what a Shelby is - and that's what this thread is about.
But if you want a Shelby as a nice car and are willing to pay for it then great, it's your money, your choice, your car.

Back in the day, the '67 Shelby GT500 was something out of the ordinary and built and raced by Shelby and rare. Nowadays, powerful cars are not rare, SVT developed the car and they're not rare. Not knocking it, just struggling to understand why that makes it an investment.

Shelby puts the blower on not you. that is the difference. You cant order a gt mustang with a blower from he factory. its not considered an aftermarket item if it comes from the shelby factory with the blower. thats why i think they will be rare a lot of mustang fans even on this site dont understand the difference between the shelby gt500, which is really an svt cobra fully assembled in the cobra plant and never sees shelbys factory, and the shelby gt which is worked over in shelbys plant just like the old 60s cars were. I Agree with what your saying about everything being assumed to be an instant collector now adays. thats why im saying i think maybe the shelbys gts will be rare they are flying a little under the radar right now in the sense that people dont know you can get them supercharged, and you could order the shelby razor rims so on and so forth. it would not be the same as us putting that stuff on our gt.

In the end we wont know. and im with you, i dont buy cars as investments. first of all if you got 50,000 to invest the stock market is a better place, you will make more money in 40 years off that 50,000 than if you buy a gt500 keep it in perfect condition and then hope that it goes for a lot of money.

But if you want a great street car to enjoy that will hold value and could very possibly make you a profit in 50 years the GT500 or the shelby gt aint the worst bet on the planet.

Personal attacks toward GT500 owners on this site certainly exist. I haven't been a member long and just the few post I have made I/my car was bashed being compared to a 03-04 Cobra. Make it so bad, the remarks are ussually made by someone who doesn't even own a 03-04 Cobra. And why do people with a slower car call a quicker car a turd?

Check this out Anyone put a GT500 on a diet?

Heck, I thought for a minute that I was on a Chevy or Dodge forum.

LOL im with you man. But it really is just the same guys bashing them. if you stick around a while you will see. its the same 4 or 5 guys, one of which doesnt even have a gt mustang. Its probably just ignorance or jealousy. Who fucking cares if it doesnt handle like a porchse, these guys have never seen a road track and never will and they think they actually push the handling limits of a their mustang on an exit ramp.

Your right they dont even have terminators and probably never driven either a terminator or a gt500 for that matter.

One in particular im wondering if he has ever driven a mustang with a V8 in it period.

I can't understand why anyone - especially mustang enthusiasts - would diss the GT500. It's just a badass muscle car... Jealousy hmm ?

People bash for different reasons. I am here to find other enthusiasts and for information about the GT 500, mustangs, autos in general, meets, and the mustang community. Oh and possibly learn to use all the options of this site...
If people want to bash they should us an instant messenger or e-mail each other and quit waisting our time and space.
Happy road bashing!

LSR congrats at getting one at MSRP....I'd do the same deal myself but so far the closest I can get is 5k over. I'm sure my opportunity will come and I am willing to wait with the cash still in the bank. When the time comes I will be picky on color too lol.

IMO the people who bash the GT500 are jealous. Is it a little overweight? Yes. Could it be better? What car couldn't. That doesn't take away from the fact that it is a badass car that I would love to own. One of the biggest bashers of the S197s and especially the GT500 has an n/a 2.3 that doesn't even run. They don't have pot to piss in. Your car is better than their and they are jealous so they make fun of your car in a feable attempt to make their cars look better.

I do not think that just because Shelby dies the value will increase. It will take 30 plus years for them to gain value just like the old ones.

Oh and if I could afford one i would buy one.

I don't dislike the GT500. I just think it could have been a better performer from the factory is all.
The motor itself is bad ass.
I won't comment on the new style of the mustang in general because it just isn't my cup of tea.
I prefer the previous style in the looks department. That's just my opinion.
I agree that some of the other folks that "bash" the GT500 are doing it just to piss you guys off. It really is a Great Mustang and for now from the factory it is the king of the hill.
All years of mustangs will have there rivalries, v6 vs. the GT .. the Cobra vs. the Mach.. and the GT500 vs. the Terminator is just that. A rivalry.
You don't have to own a car to have specific knowledge on it's performance and safety features. That's like me calling you GT500's turds and you know nothing because you can't afford a Ford GT instead.
opinions are like assholes. everyone has them and everyone is entitled to them here.
It has nothing to do with jealousy on my part.
I have a 1991 cougar.. come on now.. I CARE about how fast it is..
I'm just stating what some of you already have about your cars so Please don't include me in your "oh they are just jealous because they can't afford them" phrases.
Truth be told for the money I would either save a bit more for a Ford GT or I would just buy a Z06.. and that goes for the Terminator as well.
