Air Filter

How much horsepower can I lose with a air filter that hasnt been changed in 20,000 miles. I havent been able to get a new one because I am trying to pay off my debt for the other stuff I did to the car....the car feels like it is sucking air through a straw.

If its stock, take a look at it. If its BLACK, try to replace it.

If you have a K&N filter, you can just clean them.

its a stock air filter and the thing is black...completly and I have no throttle response. I was under the impression it was 75 for a filter so I was going to wait and just get a cheap cold CAI

$75 is only if you are going to go with a high flow/washable filter, like a K&N or something like that... and those aren't even $75, more like $50... However, if you just want a replacement for the stock one, should only be 10-15. This will definitely help if not fix your problem!

When you get the cash together spring for the K&N Filter, you won't be dissapointed. Depending on where you live you'll need to clean it every 6 months or so, but K&N backs it for a million miles... You'll need to pick up some K&N cleaner and oil, but those are inexpensive too (like under $20). I'm positive my mileage improved, and it felt the the throttle response improved as well...

$20 is about right for a stock paper filter. I got the K&N CAI (57-2565) from amazon.com and right now it's listing at $195. I noticed a difference in performance and sound as soon as I put it on.

If you can't afford the air filter then sell the car.
