electirc cut outs or....

ok guys.. im fairly new to the site, but deffinately not new to mod thing.. i had a f150 that i was allways working on..

but heres my question.. i have about 2-3 months left in my house.. (live with my parents and am a senior in highschool).. they dont want me to have a loud exhuast bc its "annoying" and blah blah... a buddy of mine has a new charger RT.. and put flowmasters on it.. but they didnt sound at all loudenough.. so he put electric cut outs in... they are pretty cool, i played around wiht em a few times.. and drove the car with em open and closed.. to see the difference in drone and what not.. and i like it..

+/- things about them..

+ Loud when you want them to be loud, but quiet if u need it to be quiet.. (like when i pull in the drive way at night .. etc.)

+ i wouldnt have to but a exhuast system (which actually could be more or less expensive.. depends)

- i heard that with the new stangs you actually loose some power with straight pipes.. or cutouts.. is this true?..

- they cost my friend i think around $450 after install

and im sure theres more that im missing.

i also thought about gettin the cut outs that u actually have to bolt the cap on or un bolt to take off.. but then that defeats the purpose of have them, bc i wont be able to go back to being quiet when in the driveway.

anyone wiht any suggestions or anything.. please let me know.. if u have cutouts or anyhting like that.. let me know..

thanks

Pass on the cut outs

Hey man, Im 52 years old so to you Im so fossilized and out of it, you most likley wouldnt believe me any way.........but.

Ditch the idea of electric cutouts. There expensive and normally dont last long, and or give you shit down the road. The cutting and welding required is pretty major league, and if not done right will ruin your entire exhuast system.

I dont know how it would be looked at come inspection time, maybe no big deal. If your driving an 05 to 07 GT wouldnt some decent axel back's give you the sweet sound you want. or do you just want to make noise?

Only my oppinion, but you would be better off spending that money on performance.

why not get the bolt ons, stop a few blocks from the house, and bolt em up? unless you cant reach under your car. Are you cutting out right after the cat, or cutting out after your headers?

On an "old tech" car it's a great idea - but with these new S197 Spanish Oaks processors the computer will take too long to adjust properly to the change in back pressure. So opening them "on the fly" wouldn't be that beneficial.

lot of good responses.. thanks guys.. umm

first off.. about the old guy ( ; just kidding.. but seriously.. i respsect ur reply over others just because of the fast that u are wiser and have had more experience.. etc.. so thank you for even takin the time to help me..

um.. as far as just gettin an axle back.. i realllly would go this route if i could just get the parents to allow me to do it while im still at home.. (and im not saying that they will deffinately not let me.. its just that it would take alot of talking and convincing..)

but an axle back, borla is what i had in mind.. would be great..

about the bolt ons and just stop a block away and puttin the caps back on, is that i come in and out probably 5 - 10 times a day.. and i would want them loud as much as possible.. and im guessing that wiht the 3 wing nuts on both caps.. and gettin on the ground and reaching under.. it would just be too much of a pain.. but DEFFINATELY save on the cost side of it..

to me its just to much hassel to do it everytime i come home..

about about the new s197 computer deal.. thats the kind of info im talking about.. this is something i never thought about or new.. and is a great point.. i had a edge evloution programmer in my f150.. and if i would change the tune from level 2 to level 3.. it would take about 100-200 miles some times more to fully get used to the new settings.. and notice the full difference....

thank you guys.. great repsonses.. i think im goin to try to talk to them and just get htem to allow me to do an axle back..

from the videos i watched.. they dont seem to be toooo loud untill they trhow in the new x-pipe or deeper with the h-pipe

Well sir, all I can say is thank you very much for being so polite and a breath of fresh air too! I do have a lot of years playing with cars just as you will. How wise I am, Im not sure but there is a wealth of knowlege on some of these sites.
Have you looked into a good CAI? The first thing I did to my 07 GT was get the C&L Cold Air Intake and the SCTXcal2 tuner from Brenspeed.com.

You know about his allready I'm sure but its the best place to start if you want to make the GT scream! I run a 93 octane tune and turn low 13's and high 12's all day and get 27 miles to the gallon on the highway and 21 in the city if I dont let it eat much.

Capped cut outs.

I have just installed the old fashion type cut outs or exhaust dumps. It take about an hour to install them and no welding is needed. Also, it takes about 10 minutes to crawl under the car and cap them up. I installed mine right behind the H pipe and ground clearance is no problem. They are very loud and really sound neat when you really get on it. At around 3000 rpms on my car which has a 4:10 rear end, these things emit an awesome rumble. I have noticed no effect on my tune, as a matter of fact, I think the car runs better.
