mounting 10" kickers on rear deck?

hey guys.. i had a thread a few days ago, about the shaker 500 and about installed 2 subs and what not..

well i just thought of this idea..

what if there was a way to mod the read deck behind the back seats where the two speakers are right now, (the ones u can see when u open the trunk) and install the 2 10's right there. i dunno if i would just leave the speakers that are there, and just put these next to it.. or what.. but if it wasnt 10 pm, i would go look at it right now, but i also dont want to void any kind of warranties with having to cut the frame or anything.. that would be bad..

and i was also thinking, after i watched a video in the mulimedia forums.. and remembering what my boss told me when i showed him the car right after i got it when i told him i wanted to paint the brake calipers red or blue..

i am not having a ricer.. NOWAY.. i bought this car because it was ammerican muscle..

so im not sure what to do here.. i dont want to re-sell the unused subs and loose money, but dont want them to sit around or anything..

ahh i dunno what to do..

an suggestions..

IMO an upgraded sound system is in no way ricish... as long as you do a good job! don't just do subs, get some componants, new headunit if you really want great quality... the red or blue brake calipers... that's getting on the ricish side, idk if I would do that...

Subs need to be in an enclosure typically. Having them in the rear package shelf would be a free air type of install, and unless you go serious with the subs & the power, it won't sound right.

I agree 100%... subs HAVE to be in a box of some kind... tons of people can make you a custom box, ported or sealed, but there are a million different factors that have to be considered... subs in an open air space is a baaaad idea...

GT stang, something to keep in mind with your deck mount idea. You can get a very effiecient free air pair of 10's that would work great using the trunk as their enclosure, the trouble is your rear deck mid and high frequencies from the oem speakers will sound muddy and distorted because the sub woofer frequencies easily manipulate all other higher frequencies. Your rear speakers used for mid and high frequencies will likely come off as distorted, especially to any rear passengers.

The smart path will be to get some 10's that work extremely well in 1 cubic foot of air space, or free air subs monuted on a dividing board between your rear seat and trunk area. I'd go with an enclosure personally.

ya.. i think im goin to totally ditch the idea of putting subs in.. the only thing i might do is the littel grill mod i was talking about.. so that u could see the face or the sub, replacing the 8's int he doors with better ones.. and i saw on i think its the rockford fosgate mustang gt, they have the grill off so u can see the sub itself and they also mounted a 6x6 door speaker in the kickpanel.. kind of like that idea.. so i dunno what im gunna do.. also maybe running my amp on the two upgraded 8's.. but right now im focused mostly on hard parts like exhaust, intake.. stuff that i can benefit from..

thanks for the help guyys.. and all the suggestions..

this site is great..
