Break dust on inner part of rimI know various manufacturers make a rem cleaner that you spray on, wait a minute or so, and then rinse off.... but does it work? Any suggestions? |

I always take mine off in the spring and clean the inside of the rim with a good metal polish, and then wax the entire wheel. (Obviously, wash all the main crud off your wheels first with a good strong car wash product first)I like to use California Custom on mine to polish them, and then I use Turtle Wax Ice to wax them. After that, any good wheel cleaner will work well, as long as you don't let the dust build up and cake back on there. Just ensure that whatever you buy is safe for the type of wheel you have. Always read the labels before you buy cleaners, waxes, and polishes.

yup, gotta take off the wheel to really clean them. its really not all that bad, 2 min to pull the wheel off. put some good wheel degreaser in there to get all that miles and miles of brake dust. and I usually put about 2 coats of wax on the inside and the brakedust usually has a hard time adhearing to the rim with the two coats of wax.

Sure, anytime man. If you're fussy like me ,110 ft-lb's torque on the lug nuts when you put em back on.

3 times a year I remove the wheels for cleaning, but for those routine washes, get your self a Lambs Wool wheel cleaner to reach back there.
It reaches to the back of the wheel, and you guys with the big paws don't have to bust your hands up on the calipers and such. Made of lambs wool, very soft, god on any wheel surface, use your favorite soap. Can be purchased here http://www.topoftheline.com/wool-wheel-brush.html or you can get em at your local auto store, walmart or similar. |

Good advice all around here. The only thing I would add is when you use spray-on wheel cleaner (and yes, by all means, use it), make sure not to leave it on there for longer than 30 seconds. I would normally say 10 seconds max on a hot day. If you leave it on too long, you run the risk of spotting the finish, and possibly detroying the clear coat on your wheels (which will lead to paint pitting, rust, and all that good stuff). Taking your wheels off once a year is a good idea, because it will also allow you the opportunity to clean out your wheel wells, and degrease your calipers/rotors, and give them a good cleaning. And don't forget to wax your wheels! They're painted, too!

+1
Always read the instructions on whatever product you choose. Even your aluminum rims have a clear coat on them and can be waxed.
