1st gear grinding

Ok, I just started noticing this, sometimes when I try to put first gear on my car, at a standstill or @ 1-7mph (any faster than that I always shift to second) My first gear kinda grinds, weird cause the car ani't moving and I always push the clutch all the way till it hits the firewall and still does it. It feels like it ain't syncronised or something, cause if I switch to neutral and then to first again it doesn't do it. Also, whenever I accelerate slowly (1000RPM or less launch, doesn't happen if I launch at 1500 or higher) 1 second after it starts moving, it feel like it drops and then picks up again (RPM drop suddenly to 500RPM and goes back up to 1000), I thought it was normal since its done it since I got it from the factory, but back then it did'nt have any problems with first like I'm experiencing now. I've launched many times on second gear and doesn't exibit any of that, hell it launches even more smoothly than in first, not even reverse gear shows any complication.

I'll be going to the dealership thursday propbably cause I got the Fuel gauge TSB again, this would make it the second time in for that crap.

Anyone have any ideas, or will I have to leave it at the dealership for them to diagnose.

Mine does this too. I'm finding that it is smoothing out with more time. I'm at around 3K now.

I would give it some more break in time, Luis. It will loosen up more over time. This is however one of the reasons an after market shifter works so well on these cars, as the factory one is not the best in the world. Just pay attention to it, and if it gets worse just keep riding your dealer about it.

Trust me, I would love to have a Short shifter but my parents won't let me do anything to the car cause the warranty will be voided ( they say the complete car, but I know its just the part you mod)

All I can do to my car is cosmetic... you can guess how ticked off I am... I want a CAI and Tuner damnit...

I just hope that after a bit of more break-in it'll loosen up.

I would talk to your dealer about a Hurst shifter from FRPP. That shouldn't void any warranties as long as Ford does the install.

I'd let them put some 4:10 before that well, I don't race... for now, so I'll just wait till I start missing third to make the change to the Short throw... but I was thinking of getting the MGW since I've heard great things about it... guess I'm screwed with the warranty.

First I need to see if I can persuade my parents to let me do any mods... I have the money, but not the aproval for mods, and since I'm not paying for the car, insurance or gas, I can't complain much.

It sucks being 17...

Nah don't worry about being 17. You probably get sick of hearing this from old dudes like me, but believe me, one day you will be in your 30's, and think "what in the blue fuck happened - yesterday I was 17!" lol
Enjoy it man.

So far i've made the best of it... Reached 115 twice on a 97 toyo, reched 110 on my stang (below radar, in a desolated place, away from people who might tell my parents (basically anyone lol) to not loose it) and have that seat of you pants feel. lol.

Someday I'll reach 120... or race.

I have the Pro 50 shifter and my car has the same problem in first. I have about 1100 miles on it so I guess that it needs to be broken (in) a little. Only time will tell. And a shifter will not void your warentee at least that is what I have been told. Now gears will if you don't let Ford do them. And being 17 does not suck! Wait untill you are 40 and working 70 hours a week to support a family and a house. That sucks! Don't grow up too fast. Enjoy your time!
