new twin 62mm granatalli throttle body : VIDEO

today we installed a twin 62mm granatalli throttle body. First off, patience is a virtue and remember that. There were some things the instructions don't mention. For instance: the tps screw o nthe passenger side of the old throttle body due snap in half, which makes for some scary moments, but no worries the new throttle body comes with replacements. Second off dont for get to take off the negative ( I think ) side battery, because we didnt until a day later, and we had imaginary torque when we first drove it. A day later after the reset the results are most evident.

Now for your viewing pleasures:

i'm suprised your car hasn't gone into failsafe or limp mode ever since you put that GMS t/b on. its a well known problem!

Hey Mav, what do you mean when you say "failsafe or limp mode"

Do you mean this :
Fail-Safe Cooling
A fail-safe cooling system lets Mustang be driven under limited power for short distances if engine coolant is lost, eliminating the cost and inconvenience of towing. If the coolant level sensor reads below a critical level, the engine computer module switches the engine to an emergency limp-home mode, in which only half the cylinders get fuel. With only half the cylinders firing, the engine operates at lower power and generates much less heat. The cylinders alternate between even- and odd-firing pistons in this mode. The engine can move the vehicle at moderate speeds (up to about 50 mph).

yup,

my buddy's 05 went into failsafe mode with the GMS. its a well known problem with the new T/B that they produce problems.

the car felt powerless. even when you drove the car under 50, the car felt like it was going to die!! other people had problems where they couldn't go higher than 30, all because of this damn POS t/b.

another problem was that when people let off the acceleration, the car continued to accelerate for 3-5 more seconds before it decelerated due to the gears/mechanisms on the t/b and the blades.

we unbolted the GMS t/b and put the stock one back on, car went back to normal. he threw away the GMS t/b because it wasn't safe and he couldn't justify selling it to anyone else and end up having the same problems or better yet have an accident if something seriously went wrong with the car while they was driving it.

sorry flattus, I didnt mean to hijack your thread, from my knowledge on the many other forums that aftermarket T/B's on the new stang's are wrothless. I'm glad that its working for you, but just be cautious if perhaps your car goes into failsafe mode or something happens.

Many have confronted J.R. Granatelli about the issue over the phone but does nothing to help anyone. he just flaps his mouth and says there's nothing wrong with out T/B its your car! he's a liar and pretty much will take any money he can get.

if it works..well keep it. i wouldnt get it though with a risk factor like that. there are so many other mods one could do for the same little gain and not risk it

Wow a post from May of 2006 and a response in January of 2007. When it was first installed (already had a K&N Air Charger) took it for a test drive and the car ran all funky. We found we had a small gap were the K&N mounted to the intake. Before adjusting the intake we disconnected the negative cable from the battery fixed the gap on the intake and replaced the cable. All was well. Keep in mind shortly thereafter I purchased an xcal2 with a tune for all my mods. 8 months later I still have it on the car and never had any codes. Would I buy one today? No there are better mods now to spend almost $400.00 on that yield a lot more HP.

I purchased a GMS Throttle body - and never could get it to run... I sent it back to GMS, they said they re-worked it, sent it back, and it still set my car into failsafe mode.... finally, I learned from GMS that they had a known problem with thier TB's with a particular lot from thier vendor.... they didn't offer to replace it - just asked me to send it back for a refund.. to which it took 2 months between BlowByRacing and GMS to work out. Finally, BlowByRacing sent me the refund via a check.. They said they were going to stop carrying GMS products.... That being said, I do have the GMS CAI - and it works with no problem.. It didn't require a tune.. but when I did buy a Diablo tuner, i just removed the link and it ran great.

I then purchased a BBK Throttle body... it didn't throw it into safe mode, but it surges something awful... so I removed it...

TB's just havent been worked out yet... IMO they are worthless on these cars. For a possible 3 horsepower gain, I'd rather not have tuning issues with my car.
